As the gemorah says live in your succah like you live in your house. Do I need to bring my WiFi box into my succah? Suggestions please.

Typing this on my laptop in the sukkah while enjoying coffee and cake. Great, warm night for sleeping outside.

October 19, 2016 3:09 am at 3:09 am #1189242Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantPersonally, I would say it’s better not to bring it into the Sukkah. There are certain things that it’s better not to bring into the Sukkah, and I would say that’s one of them. Only saying because you asked. This comment was only meant for the one asking – not for anyone else.
October 19, 2016 5:51 am at 5:51 am #1189243LightbriteParticipantIs this a serious question? Who doesn’t bring WiFi into the sukkah? Just kidding… honestly that’s a great question.
Maybe ask yourself if WiFi would honor the holy experience of sukkot. And if so, then proceed by asking your LOR
October 19, 2016 8:39 am at 8:39 am #1189244SoftwordsParticipantDaniell11 – now for a serious answer. I’ve actually have had to ask this question myself to several poskim due to parnasa issues and have always been told not to bring it into the sukkah, but rather work outside the sukkah. I have never clearly understood the reason though.

Always try to see the positives in people

I would still say (if asked) that it’s better not to have it in the Sukkah at all. I am not judging anyone, but that is my opinion.
October 20, 2016 2:50 am at 2:50 am #1189247WiseyParticipantIts because of that logic that I am careful to speak lashon hora in my sukkah. lol
October 20, 2016 10:27 am at 10:27 am #1189248Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantWisey +1!!
October 20, 2016 12:46 pm at 12:46 pm #1189249Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantI was actually thinking that it could be compared to going to the bathroom in the Sukkah. Using Internet may be necessary and unavoidable (like going to the bathroom is) but it’s not something appropriate for a Sukkah.
November 2, 2016 11:42 pm at 11:42 pm #1189250Geordie613ParticipantWhy is using internet inappropriate for the sukkah? We assume that internet is used in conformation with halacha. If you are permitted to work for whatever reason on chol hamoed, then I would think it’s better to do it in the sukkah.
November 3, 2016 1:18 am at 1:18 am #1189251Ex-CTLawyerParticipantI posted earlier that we had wifi in the sukkah as it was only a few feet from our router.
Our 28 year old lives and works in Europe. A wifi connection allowed her to share in our family gathering on CH via Skype and/or Facetime. This only added to the simchas chag for her parents and bubbe

Dankie en ‘n goeie jaar
There is no reason not to use technology that does not violate halacha to enhance the joy of Sukkos.
November 7, 2016 1:47 am at 1:47 am #1189254Abba_SParticipantIn cities like NYC there is Wifi everywhere you just may not be able to access it. Almost every succah has Wifi as it travels through the air. In more rural locations depending how far the succah is from the Wifi router there is going to be wifi there. Remember laptop tablets and even cell phones run on Wifi.
