i dunno. my friends would get the biggest kick out of it. but maybe. especially now that i can’t play sports and i don’t hang out with them unless they come around for a few hours.

I don’t live in brooklyn unfortunately so I can’t volunteer although I’d really love to, but is there anyone else on this forum who lives in brooklyn who’d like to learn with moish with the condition that this is learning (and shmoozing?) only – no discussion about becoming frummer? This is NOT a kiruv opportunity, just a chance to learn with a geshmake kid. If there is someone on this forum please post here your willingness to do this and then if moish is ready to go for it, maybe the editor or one of the mods can put you 2 in contact. I will also look offline of I can find someone.
Moish, people like that do exist, you’ve just unfortunately never come in contact with them it seems. Also, what could be better than giving your friends a nice shocker like that? 🙂
i’ll pass. there’s no way i’m going to “shmooze” (as you put it) with a stranger. i haven’t learnt a word in about a year and i’m not about to start now. and it’s not exactly cool to give your friends that kind of shocker. sorry!

I’m soooooo not into kiruv. I saw that you seemed to feel like you are way behind others your age in learning (and you seemed like you wouldn’t mind if you wouldn’t be), so I figured that maybe you’d enjoy learning with someone without any pressure ot kiruving, so I offered to help find someone. Your initial reaction was hey, why not? That reaction makes sense to me. However, if after thinking about it you’re too closed minded to be willing to believe that someone may actually be willing to learn with you without trying to be makarev you, then just forget about it. If you change your mind, please let me know – the offer remains on the table.
BTW, the geshmake kid part was true, not a false compliment for kiruv purposes. From all your posts you do seem like a very geshmake person. Not everyone becomes Mr. Popularity here their first week. (except tonight when you seem a bit too cranky to be called geshmak, lol. Did you have a lousy shabbos?)

There are some people who might have an underlying motive to be mekarev you.
There are others, however, that don’t have such a motive. They allow you to make your own choices, but they want you to make an informed decision. Learning with them will allow you to gain the information you need to make an informed choice. I say you should do it, but be very careful about who the person is. Being pushed into something is horrible. Being accepted and cared for is great.
Why worry about your friends. Your friends don’t have to know that you learn with someone for say an hour a week.
i dont recall ever using the word “problem” or even implying it. you sound like you like to dramatize things.

just letting you know that there are other ways to BREATHE–as in, eyn Torah ella mayim–we cant live without Torah, the same way we cant live without water.

moish01, You can say whatever you want about me. but calling others (either those in the coffee room of the greater “generic others”) not nice names AND you know what I am talking about, will not be tolerated.
That’s ok, moish. You’re allowed a horrific day. We all have them some time or other. Being homebound certainly doesn’t make life very pleasant.
