cause the name ruby makes it into a unique name for this kind of jewelry & makes it more valueable with its unique name

Because that doesn’t make sense. Sapphires are blue. They are both corundums.

You can ask why don’t they just call a ruby a red corundum.

Why don’t they call a sapphire a blue corundum

    From the Geology website:

“Red corundums are known as “rubies,” blue corundums are known as “sapphires,” and corundums of any other color are known as “fancy sapphires.””

Red corundum should be known as fancy sapphires.

    You’re a fancy sapphire

All of you are fancy sapphires

Ruby can be short for Reuven, and I think that Reuven’s stone in the Choshen Mishkan may have been a ruby (Odem in Lashon Hakodesh).

My friend told me that her niece was named after a Ruby/Reuven, so they named her Odem.

It still doesn’t make sense. Why a special name for just one of the colors?
