On the subject of horses, I once had a rebbi who saw me walking with a Polo – Ralph Lauren shirt that had the little horse emblem on it. He looks at me and says, “Ahem. I see the ferd is outside the shirt today.” (I do not have a lot of respect for him, but hey – a good line is a good line!)

Yiddish for horse. It’s akin to calling someone a wild animal.

    Thanks ski 🙂

ARWSF -“i thought why are horses always lean?”

And I think that most are obese. Most don’t spend all day at the racetrack, but lounging around in the pasture -chomping away.

Maybe you get fooled by where their belly is. When they are fat -it hangs down, not like us humans where it sticks out for e/o to notice!

Why have I never seen an overweight horse?

The reason some people are obese is because although they should eat like a person, they eat like a horse. This is not a problem for a horse.

    #849191

Health, maybe you’re right. But they look very muscular.

I just googled “obese horse,” and there are all these random sites with photos of horses that they say are obese, but don’t look fat at all. Maybe that’s why.

Horses eat oats hay, grass…these things wouldn’t make people fat. The hay and grass would make us sick but oats are healthy and filling.

We get fat from eating too much and from eating junk food.

    #849194

    WIY,

    Google “eat like a horse”.

Ditto for all the other animals! The only exceptions maybe where humans interfered.

I know people will mention elephants, whales, and so on but i dont think they are overweight in comparison to each other they are just built that way.

yitayningwut: isn’t ferd more like an idiot rather than a wild animal?

Lol. This guy went to his doctor and complained that he eats like a horse, drinks like a fish, works like a dog, is as blind as a bat, as busy as a beaver, as gentle as a lamb, as quiet as a mouse, as stubon as a mule and sweats like a pig. The doctor replied that he should go and see a vet!

they don’t wear tight clothes, so how can anyone tell if horses are overweight?

FYI – Horses are not obese because they have a lot of muscle. I think this topic is a waste of time and not worthy of a discussion.

    You have seen overweight horses.

Its the black saddle that makes them look 10 lbs lighter

OneOfMany – LOL I don’t think they are referring to the Yiddish word ferd, pronounced feh-rd, but to another word that rhymes with nerd (and word, for that matter). I’m going to enter it into UD now, should go up within a day or so. Will spell it fehrd.

BT you are actively seeking to get married? How old are you? WOuld you like any leads?

    Hi arwsf.

First of all, that is super nice and thoughtful of you to ask.

    Sure, leads would be welcome.

    What do you suggest?

And how could such info be made less public so it’s not on an overweight horse thread? lol

Oh, that makes sense. I was thinking that “furred” didn’t sound much like Yiddish.

    #849215

baalhabooze, your comment is the funniest thing I’ve read all day.

Lets do a reality show. Did you plan that statement, like accurately aiming at how funny it’d be, or it just came out like that?

    #849216

BT, I would never suggest a shidduch that was an issue of overweight horses. LOL

” WIY – Too much carbs will make anyone fat, even horses.”

That’s a myth. Carbs only make you fat if you know what they are and you care about them hence they can’t make horses fat. (This is not a scientifically proven fact)

    Hi arwsf.

That is a relief. Actually, it’s what is on the inside that counts. One cannot hide what’s underneath the hide….or something like that…lol

    Hi Nechomah.

Well, if arwsf goes through NASI, such a match would be too expensive anyway. YIKES! lol
