The moderators have made it clear that they lurk (and post) under alternate identities. Chances are you’ve had a conversation with a mod and didn’t know it.
If you were going to find out the identity of a mod (funny to use that word in relation to a screen name), which poster would you most want it to be? Which would you most NOT want it to be?

I would hope that Rabbi of Berlin is one. he seems sincere and seicheldig. I would not venture to mention whom I absolutely hope is NOT a moderator a) because if I am wrong and they actually ARE, my posts will mysteriously disappear and b) it’s not nice to embarrass someone with an obviously mean comment.

my family really, really dislikes YW Moderator-72. they say he spends too much time moderating and not nearly enough time doing anything else. :o(

anyone notice that we hear mostly from moderators 72 and 99? are there really that many or is that a fancy way of saying “moderators 1 and 2”?!?!?!
i have a sneaking suspicion that NEITHER Joseph OR Rabbi of Berlin are really moderators. i may be wrong but they’re probably friends from before and made a deal not to tell anyone that they’re just regular mambers on this site… especially since people are always hinting that they think they’re moderators…
what do you think? i could be totally off… but for some reason i think not…
squeak: I’d like to personally thank you for raising such a vital and important topic with this thread. I’m not sure how we all survived the raw thrill of speaking to a mod and not even realizing it!! I hope that at least when you DO know you are speaking to a mod (like when he is officially logged in as such), you do so with much awe and intrepidation, and at least have decency and kavod to stand at your monitor when reading or replying to his messages.
Now here are my nominations:
1) jO jO is DEFINITELY one. Half of his new threads are immediately made sticky. And even more incriminating, everyone (besides the Editor and mods) has the word “Member” linked under their screen name,on the left of each comment in the coffee room. Well a few weeks ago, instead of saying Member by jO jO it said “Shmendrik”.
2) Joe Schmo. He is the oldest registered user on YW, besides the Editor. See: http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/profile/4 (Registered users are given sequential number in the order of registration. Change that number and see. Good hack, eh?)
3) jphone. This is an educated hunch.
This comment is likely to be edited, deleted, or get the whole thread closed or removed. But hey, thats life. 🙂

I can tell you this much, it’s not just me and 72 that moderate, but we are the only ones (and our boss) who post comments using the moderator label on a consistent basis.
(Although I think 86 posted not that long ago.)

I can understand your fascination with who is a Moderator, afterall who else could have such a glamorous job. look at the fun we have it is now slightly after 1AM and I am reading and deciding on such issues as is “so and so” a Moderator.

-the yw editor has been a “member” since may 12 2006
-joeschmo has been a member since may 21 2006-the eirliest i was able to find(very complete resarch lol clicking on random peoples names then going to anything posted 5 months ago and clicking on more random names—-okokok i know i need a more exciting life)
-emesvyatziv has been a member since june 27 2006
-and headinthesand it says blocked under his name not member hhhmmm? yes i know the editor could go change that now to confuse us…..but u know
umm, who cares who the mods are? is this site so important in the grand scheme of things?
There obviously isn’t more than 2 moderators (78 & 99?) considering the long times it takes posts to be reviewed/approved.
Joseph & Rabbi of berlin clearly know each other (although never agree) & Joseph mentioned on a different thread that he learned in Chaim Berlin. He also mentioned that he & RoB go way back, so it seems pashut to me that RoB must have learned with him in Chaim Berlin – hence – Rabbi of Berlin.
It’s probably an inside joke from their days in elementary school.

Who’s 78? There’s 99 and 72 and 86 – that’s 3. I agree that there aren’t many moderators otherwise posts would go up quicker.
Maybe there are no moderators and it’s all the Editor, but since he’s so busy posts take a long time to go up. But to make it look bigger and larger then it is he posts under different names. Maybe no one in the forum is a moderator.
Just a thought.
