Does anyone have any idea who will be speaking at the Siyum Hashas? Last time R Frand was the big speaker and he did a great job.
I hope there will be more English than Yiddish…
May 23, 2012 6:30 pm at 6:30 pm #876412ZeesKiteParticipantIf need be, I could. I know a drop of English. Is there a number to call?
May 23, 2012 11:24 pm at 11:24 pm #876413Sam2ParticipantZees: Do they even allow women at the Siyum Hashas? (Honest question; I’ve never been there.)
May 24, 2012 1:48 am at 1:48 am #876414147ParticipantWill Yiddish be banned & banished at the Siyum haShas, so every decent Jewish Anglo Saxon, can really participate & come out, inspired by the program, to be fired up for the next 2711 days.
If English is too hard, speak in Aramaic which is the language of Shas.
May 24, 2012 2:48 am at 2:48 am #876415cheftzeMemberNope, Yiddish will be present in a prominent fashion at the siyum. If that doesn’t suit you, you are of course free to make your own siyum with 9 of your friends at home.
May 24, 2012 3:04 pm at 3:04 pm #876416BaalHaboozeParticipantI hope they learned their lesson from the Internet Asifa.
As beautiful as it was, and I LOVED it, the fact remains that it COULD have been better, and more effective. Many English speaking American yidden were left grumbling and complaining. As by the asifa at Citifield, I wonder what the big deal is to make 2 seperate siyumim, one in english and one in yiddish, and make all jews happy and let all you Shas “heros” celebrate to your heart’s delight – because you all deserve it! And those who did not finish Shas but wish to join with your fellow brethren’s simcha, kol hakovod, that itself is praiseworthy. And let there be english AND yiddish! just my 2 cents.
May 24, 2012 3:28 pm at 3:28 pm #876417NaysbergMemberEvery Siyum Hashas, from the inception of the Daf Yomi through the siyum 7 1/2 years ago, has always had prominent Yiddish speaking. There’s no reason for that to change and it should be expected from anyone attending.
May 24, 2012 4:42 pm at 4:42 pm #876418popa_bar_abbaParticipantSam:
Honest question? You were in doubt?
May 24, 2012 5:15 pm at 5:15 pm #876419zahavasdadParticipantIn the end the English Speakers will be more upset if Yiddish is spoken than the Yiddish speakers will be if English is Spoken
Most yiddish speakers , speak English, Most English speakers do NOT speak or understand yiddish

May 24, 2012 6:05 pm at 6:05 pm #876421Sam2ParticipantPBA: Until I saw Goq’s post I thought it a Davar Pashut that they weren’t allowed, actually.
May 24, 2012 6:33 pm at 6:33 pm #876422popa_bar_abbaParticipantOk, yes it is a davar pashut.

How would you know that?
May 24, 2012 10:48 pm at 10:48 pm #876425cheftzeMemberYou can learn some Yiddish. It’ll make you more different than the goyim, which is a good thing.
May 24, 2012 11:05 pm at 11:05 pm #876426apushatayidParticipantQuick, lets all join Der Arbeter Ring.

Goyim eat hot dogs. Should we stop eating hot dogs because the goyim eat them?
May 24, 2012 11:41 pm at 11:41 pm #876429zahavasdadParticipantI can speak a jewish Language, Its called HEBREW
May 25, 2012 12:00 am at 12:00 am #876430147ParticipantHEBREW is the sole & only Jewish language! The blueprint of haShem, Torah heKedosho is written in Hebrew.
May 25, 2012 12:14 am at 12:14 am #876431midwesternerParticipantMore than half the speakers at the last Siyum Hashas were in English. The time before that as well.
I remember 1982. Four main speakers. Rav Yaakov Kamenetsky, Bluzhover Rebbe in Yiddish. Rav Mordechai Gifter, Rav Shimon Schwab in English.
May 25, 2012 2:17 am at 2:17 am #876432zahavasdadParticipantIf Rav Gifter and Rav Schwab can speak english, So can I
