Hi all, BH I made a successful business deal recently and I was wondering who to give my mayseh money to. I was thinking maybe a yeshiva or a kollel but some people are telling me to give to seminaries. For some reason I feel more inclined to sponsor talmud torah in yeshivas etc. as opposed to a girls institution. What’s your take?

    #2099678

Give it to someone who you know does a good job at whatever he is doing. Giving funds to institutions may or may not be efficient, but also does not just provide an opportunity but also increases someone’s power and you are responsible for that.

For example, providing funds for educational purposes either directly to parents or to outstanding teachers, wherever they will be teaching, might be better than giving funds to institutions.

Is your “successful business deal” your lottery (a.k.a. gambling) winnings? If so, you owe $5.25 Mil. (or $10.5 mil. if you give chomesh) to give out.
I would think that opening up your own Kollel would be the smartest idea. You know exactly where it is going to, without any managers taking a cut.

Ask a shailoh to your Rav.

If one has a chiyuv, responsibility to pay anyhow, it cannot be redeemed through maaser money. Maybe contribute to publish a sefer where you will have a reward whenever it is used.

Give to the Troller Mosdos being that you are Rosh Hakillah of the Mosdos

Ask your LRP for a suggestion regarding some individual ben torah who is on the cusp of having to leave kollel for economic reasons. Assuming you are dealing with a modest sum, spreading it out over multiple mosdos is unlikely to yield a visible outcome.

    @commonsaychel

I dare you to come up with 5 recent threads which are NOT troll threads. None of them can have been started by you. I’m curious to see what you come up with

I wouldn’t open a kollel or write a sefer, it’s not my style. I would be more than happy to donate my money to a moisod which will definitely enable a yeshiva to operate, with guaranteed zechusim of limud torah.
My question is R.E. seminaries, can you compare the zechusim of a seminary to a yeshiva?

Nice try but no thanks. If you can get a hold of Joseph, he’d love to discuss this over coffee but we’re done here.

Give your Maaser money to poor families that could really use the money for real needs of food and things to stay alive. That’s what giving REAL TZEDAKA is the definition of helping poor people out and that’s what best use for Maaser money. Versus a organization has fundraising events and memberships etc…. To raise money for their school or shul etc…. How can a poor person raise money without embarrassing himself?

Call any frum dentist and ask them if they have a patient that is in desperate need of dentistry but are not doing it because the can not afford it. I have a friend who paid for braces for a 14 y.o daughter of a divorcee’ whose x-husband is a dead beat dad..

This allowed the girl to gain self confidence, as she is no longer hiding her smile, and eventually will help her in shidduchim

Im guessing every dentist has a few situations like that.

If he has a full-time job I will happily help him out. There’s something called hishtadlus.

I did not mean you should publish a sefer but help someone who does. I think Rav Yair Hoffman at
YairHoffman2 @ gmail dot com is publishing a sefer.

Try lending money for free, Chofetz Chaim considers it a bigger mitzva.

    A couple of halachik reasons:
    – people in need of loans are more limited in their choices. You can go to multiple places asking for $20, but to get a serious loan, you can only go to people who know you or are willing to do due diligence
    – loans are often for people how are temporarily down and see a way to get back on their feet. It is a great mitzva to help thme now before they become totally ruined.

You also have a great feeling of relief when you are finally (after some delays) get paid back, and the other person stops avoiding you. And you can lend that money again!

If you don’t get paid, consider that you finally did what you tried to do to begin with – to give tzedokah. (just do not lend more than what you wanted to give).

Who should I give my Mayseh money to?

    To your bubby

Then it would become a bubbe mayseh!

“coffee addict, I think it is funny but not on the other’s plaitzes, shoulders.“

So if it was on my shoulders it would be funny?

    I’m insulted!

Just btw in YWN WhatsApp status it shows a Jew from Kew Gardens in Queens that won $1,000,000 in a scratch off
