I know my parents the best and so in midos I could say they are my role models.

In my outlook on life I’m most influenced by my rabanim in the yeshiva.

I have certain gdoylim to whom I connect more than others.

In most of what I do though my yetzer arah plays a much bigger part than my role models (:

Sparkly – it’s sad not to have any role models. I think we grow only from having role models. It doesn’t have to be someone you know personally – it can be someone from Tanach or Jewish History, or someone who is famous today, but I think that in order to grow there has to be someone who is an example to you on some level and whom you want to be like in some ways.

    Joseph – good question!

    #1188399

Well depends on which areas of my life different people would effect

    My therapist (obvious reasons)

Ivanka trump(a successful woman, classy,a family that she takes care of even though she’s a busy entrepreneur and businesswoman )

Ywn29/100(even though he gets hurt doesn’t hold a grudge and also he does the right thing)

Hillel (cause he could control his temper)

    Rabbi akiva (never too late)

And so much more…..no patience to conitnue

Two role models come to mind:

    1. A particular friend of mine whom I have known for many years. I was always jealous of her because she has certain personality traits that make her very well-liked by many people as well as an extremely popular, well-liked, successful educator (all of these are things that I have always wanted to be). Even though jealousy is generally not considered to be a positive trait, and my intentions definitely had a very large measure on not-l’shmaness, it seems that there must have been an element of “kinas sofrim” since I was zoche, b’chasdei Hashem, to be able to develop those traits in myself to a large extent.

    2. Sara Schnirer because:

    a) she did not allow her marital status to define her.

    b) she did not let her marital status, gender or societal norms restrict her from fulfilling her potential.

    c) Her motto in life was the same as my name and motto (“lilmod ulelameid”)

    d) She was brave enough to act against the tide but at the same time, she made sure that everything she did was in accordance with Daas Torah and was done l’shma. And she wasn’t radical for the sake of being radical – when being radical was the right thing to do, she was radical, and when being traditional was the right approach, she was traditional.

lilmod ulelamaid – LOTS of people like me but i have no interest in having people be jealous of such a thing especially not of me being an educator.

Sparkly: there’s something called “kinas sofrim”. That means that you admire someone else’s positive qualities and want to copy them. That is what happened here, in short. It was only because I saw that my friend had these qualities that I realized they were important to me and things that I could bring out in myself.

lilmod ulelamaid – its NOT good for people to be jealous of others. im sure there will be LOTS of people jealous of me as a pharmacist. but thats NOT good.

The Torah says it’s a very good thing to be jealous of the positive qualities of others. It’s only a problem if you want to have it instead of them. But if it’s in addition, it’s a very good thing.

    DY -“Giyoress or Not?”

How do you remember all those old topics?

But according to you over there, Ivanka is for sure a Giyoress!

I wasn’t ever talking about Ivanka, but some Chinese Giyoress.

I’m still not sure who was right over there.

Don’t forget Ivanka lives a secluded life, she might not be exposed to a lot of Frum Yidden.

This Chinese lady lives in NY, and it’s unlikely she is as secluded as the Trump’s!

Either way, I thought it was interesting that you have, since the time you started that thread, been m’varer your safek.

DY -“Health, it seems that she doesn’t even have the standards of the woman in your story.”

It doesn’t matter because she is so secluded from Klal Yisroel (Ivanka)!

    From your post over there:

“Tosofos in Shabbos say that even if someone doesn’t know about Shabbos, it doesn’t passul the geirus.”

“Either way, I thought it was interesting that you have, since the time you started that thread, been m’varer your safek.”

No, I’m still Mesupek, because this was in Manhattan. She probably lives in a place where a lot of women cover their hair!

lol, I was thinking of saying the same. I assume it was meant as a joke, but it’s still true.

    “And you?”

    1. I try to be a role model to everyone I come into contact with, although I don’t always succeed.

    2. My friends’ kids, especially the ones whom I go to for Shabbos.

    3. My students.

My role model is a special person I met in high school who is a few years older than me. She is amazing ruchniyus wise, and as a person. I look up to her and strive to be like her. She literally made me the person I am today.

Shopping613 – I think Sparkly means the people she met when she was in high school. She was homeschooled, so I don’t think she means the people she met IN high school, but rather the people she met while SHE was in h.s.

first of all I find it hilarious people talking about the bamboo cradle woman,upthread- I’m friends with (one of) her son and he’s a regular guy(not that anyone thought otherwise, just I know him personally everyone else knows them as a ‘celebrity’ somewhat) its just funny.

anyway, my role model: my doctor-who learns a full first seder and only opens his practice after yeshiva mincha.

    pretty cool guy.
