A used atarah has little value. Just buy a new one, and maybe the store owner will agree to call it a “trade-in” and take some money off just to make the sale.
actually I received the atarah as a gift and the edges are very sharp and they have caused the tallis to fray. but thanks for the unprovoked rechilus, much appreciated.
@DaasYochid
I was thinking maybe a silver store would have more value for it?
Maybe a jeweler can smooth the edges. I don’t know if they are anti-tarnish treated, and if it can be re-treated.
I am not aware that silver stores sell ataros, I thought in Judaica stores. Unless there’s a market for used ataros, you’ll only get paid according to the weight of the silver (and not 100%).
A silver store might give you the melting price. I have a broken becher that I took in to be repaired but it was too damaged. So I asked about selling it. The price was a lowball so i just kept it instead.
@DaasYochid Thats an idea, I really like how they look, I just dont like what they are doing to my Tallis! plus it actually scratched my face over pesach!
@Popa_bar_abba Thanks for the apology. Appreciated. Btw my username is letters and numbers because i’m not creative enough to come up with a good one! 🙂
