    1. Drive to manhattan, and park on 61st or 62nd near 1st avenue. Parking is easy after 7.

    2. Take the tram to Roosevelt Island. It picks up from the foot of the Queensboro Bridge at 1st and 59. It costs a metrocard swipe.

    3. There is a Starbucks on the Island, I think it used to close at like 9. Then, you can walk on the boardwalk along the east river, and sit on the benches there. Bring sweaters if it will be chilly.

Sounds like an interesting idea, but first I have to decide to get remarried and then I have to find s/o who is willing to go out with me and then I have to put gas in the car & pay for all those tolls. Also, I hate coffee ( – so I have no where to go) & sweaters ( -so I have nothing wear).

After all this, it doesn’t seem worth the Tircha – I’ll just stay home and blog on YWN!

If you live in the NYC Metropolitan area some people go to Prospect Park -there is a Zoo there and a botanical garden across the street. This obviously is only a day date, not at nite. I never went to either, but I’ve driven past them a few times. Also, during the day -NY has many museums you can visit.

Here is a really fun thing you can do – become Chassidish and the rest of your dates will only be sit-ins!

    Is 144 your age? (:0

Sitting in is not a Chassidish minhag, it is a frum minhag. There are some very real Litvish yeshiva boys that are sitting in these days and making a decision after 4 times. So far there have been no divorces among this group but from those of you who are busy looking at the gashmius, there are divorces, broken engagements and committments to such as shmutzbook(facebook). Rabbi Ephraim Waxman wrote an article about dating in a Jewish Observer a few years ago. Try to get an issue and then you’ll see the truth. Going in public places as the weather gets warmer is like walking in a zoo of humans. Statistics of divorces among frum Yidden who are Chassidish, although unfortunately more heard of than years ago is still far less than among other types!

By the way there are people with beautiful homes who offer there homes for sit ins, so that the atmosphere is more relaxed than in ones own home or that of the other side of the date.

Yes, i am speaking from experience of having married off all our children B”H without these narishkeiten, but focusing on what is important in marriage and how the children will grow together.

I generally had good luck taking a girl to Toys R Us and then to a hotel lobby or the like.

Toys R Us works because childhood is generally any area where people have a good deal of positive memories that can serve as ice breakers and conversation starters. Buying a game or small Legos (or coloring books and crayons) at Toys R Us generally runs anywhere from $5-$25. You then do the activity, build or play the game while on the date at the hotel lobby.

You have to be the right kind of person for this to work, but I never stuck out with it and most girls appreciated the break from the high tension “normal” dates. You will get a few funny looks for playing Uno together in a hotel while all dressed up, but it gets the conversation going.

You can take her to the coffee room. That will give you conversation pieces all night.

You should take her to the asifa but she will have to dress up like a man.

Ms. Critique -“Sitting in is not a Chassidish minhag, it is a frum minhag. There are some very real Litvish yeshiva boys that are sitting in these days and making a decision after 4 times.”

Your critique or criticism of me is Not warranted and is full of misconceptions.

First of all, I never said No Litvish ever sit-in. My post was based on the fact that Most Chassidishe do sit-in as opposed to Most Litvaks or Non-Chassidim, who don’t.

Second of all, it is Not a Minhag, as far as I know, but just a Farfrumta thing. This doesn’t mean I’m opposed to it, but just it isn’t on the level of a Minhag.

“So far there have been no divorces among this group but from those of you who are busy looking at the gashmius, there are divorces, broken engagements and committments to such as shmutzbook(facebook). Rabbi Ephraim Waxman wrote an article about dating in a Jewish Observer a few years ago. Try to get an issue and then you’ll see the truth. This paragraph is totally inaccurate. Just because you and some people you know who only did sit-ins – didn’t have any divorces -doesn’t mean anything.

“Statistics of divorces among frum Yidden who are Chassidish, although unfortunately more heard of than years ago is still far less than among other types!”

Now this above statement is totally meant to manipulate. In general, the Charedim or Ultra-orthodox have less divorce than the MO or Modern Jews. But unfortunately, the latest statistics are -that Chassidish couples have more divorces than the Litvish or Non-Chassidish. I’m not saying that this is due to going out as opposed to sitting-in, but your premise is wrong -so you have No reason to push sit-ins over going out!

Sorry, but our family has all types Chassidish,Litvish,Heimish,Yerushalmi, modern. At our simchos you see men from wearing just a knitted kipa to shtreimlich and in between there are up hats, down hats, no hats…..so i am speaking from experience.

    #903129

um ure experience in ure family cannot be a basis for ure assumption that thats how it is in the jewish world as a whole just saying

You soooo missed the point. No matter what your family make up is – the size can’t change or show the statistics. You need a decent sample of the pop. (Statistics 101)

I told you what the real statistics are based on info that was told to me.

    But, nice try.

The Chasidish have the lowest divorce rate among Chareidim.

Yankie Doodle – Not any more. You’re behind the times. Lower than MO, not the rest of the Charedim.

I dunno who is included in chareidim, but the yeshivish crowd in places like flatbush definitely currently have a notably higher divorce rate than the chasidishe crowd in places like williamsburg.

Usually that Frum crowd in Flatbush isn’t considered Charedi or Yeshivish, even though a lot learnt in places like TV or Chaim Berlin or Mir. They are considered Madern (Modern), but not Modern Orthodox (MO).

Let me know afterwards where you went for lunch. I just don’t believe there is anything here that you can go to on a formal date.

Also, tell me about I Play -I’m thinking of taking my kids there -esp. the costs involved.

BTW: If you want someplace nice just to hang out, I love Lincoln Center. It’s got a nice plaza, and this really cool big chunk of lawn that’s hanging in midair, and it’s only a few blocks from Central Park and the zoo.
