How did your mother send tzedaka with you when you were in kindergarden and first grade?
Mothers- How do you send tzedaka with your children to school?
I was sent with tzedaka taped to my shirt. Wondering if anyone else had that minhag/ how many other people did/do that.
March 11, 2011 3:46 pm at 3:46 pm #749547s2021MemberThe tzedaka taped to the shirt is a minhag??
March 11, 2011 8:35 pm at 8:35 pm #749548deiyezoogerMemberwe sometimes draw a nice school bus on a “mitzva tzatel” and put pennies for the wheels.
March 13, 2011 3:49 pm at 3:49 pm #749549candy613Memberwell if the kid is really responsible put it in his pocket or something. Otherwise, tape it on the shirt! There’s no way it wont get to the tzedaka box from there!!!

March 13, 2011 9:56 pm at 9:56 pm #749557yogiboobooMembermy students usually come to school with a bunch of pennies at beg of year then when they finish whats intheir little purse thing then they take it home to refill.
in the nursey by my school. they get at the beg of the year a little zipper thing that gets attached to their knapsacks and it says on it mitzvah notes and tzeddakah.
March 13, 2011 10:09 pm at 10:09 pm #749558ImaofthreeParticipantHa ha, wolfish musings, I was also in public school for kindergarten only. When I was older I used to carry my penny for tzaddakah in my shoe.

The person asked what we did in kindergarten. No one *had* to respond — we all did by choice. So I too was answering that I did not do so because I went to public school.
Why do you feel that that fact is so potent?

March 14, 2011 3:31 am at 3:31 am #749561commonsenseParticipantto be honest I don’t remember what we did in kindergarten, for my own kids they ususally have a pocket on in the knapsack that we devote to tzedakah

March 14, 2011 1:06 pm at 1:06 pm #749564guy-ochoMemberI had it sent in film canisters. my kids are looking over my shoulders and have no idea what I’m talking about!
March 14, 2011 6:38 pm at 6:38 pm #749565bptParticipantI don’t remember the penny part, but do remember my mother assuring me she would wait by the bus stop until I got back at 2:00 (and I fully believed her).
Still do!
March 14, 2011 7:32 pm at 7:32 pm #749566stickynoteMemberI just brought my credit card to class every day and said swipe! 🙂
March 14, 2011 8:39 pm at 8:39 pm #749567Mother in IsraelMemberI send it in the little zipper pocket of my kids’ backpacks. Mitzvah notes go in there too. I have to admit that they often come back home a few times before the kid remembers to take it out.
