February 2, 2009 5:09 pm at 5:09 pm #666646heimesheyidMemberBoro Park favorite is Mcfleishigs, ever taste a Boro Park sandwich from there, my mouth is watering. They are not too expensive either, which is another great part!

February 3, 2009 3:48 pm at 3:48 pm #666660SJSinNYCMemberThere is an Olympic Pita Express near my office and I go semi-frequently (1-2X a month). I’ve also converted a ton of people in my office to loving schwarma!
In Teaneck I love Smokey Joe’s (mexican), Noah’s Ark (good deli style restaurant) and Chickies (awesome, moderately priced chicken sandwhiches).
In Monsey, KYO has awesome fried Bananas for dessert. They arent always on the menu, but you can ask for them. Get some vanilla ice cream too!
February 3, 2009 8:34 pm at 8:34 pm #666661areivimzehlazehParticipantsqueak- you are just toooooo good. I bet the people around you don’t even appreciate your dry humor

February 4, 2009 6:01 am at 6:01 am #666664PosterMemberI happen to love pasta dishes (milchigs). I would prefer cafe’ k, Bertaluccisetc. over any fleishige place. I used to think that this would save me money but nowadays u can get a fleishige meal for the same prce as a milichig one. Still in all, pass the ziti!!

February 4, 2009 6:53 am at 6:53 am #666669asdfghjklParticipantmoish01: yes a rib stake is better, but we’re working on saying dairy foods are okish!!
February 4, 2009 1:25 pm at 1:25 pm #666670PosterMemberIts funny, i dont go for steak. It makes me an uncomfortable type of full. Thats why I always prefer Milchigs. When it comes to pasta I like lasagna, baked ziti, penne in pink sauce, stuffed cheese shells, just to name a few. MY MOUTH IS WATERING!!!
February 4, 2009 2:36 pm at 2:36 pm #666671oomisParticipantmoish: olympic pita is the best, and thier lafa is amazing.$
Olympic Pita has EXCELLENT food, especially the steak (for those rare occasions when we can afford a steak, LOL). I have been there three or four times (try to get a seat ALL the way in the back, the view is very interesting). The Laffa is almost the best part of the meal, they make it fresh on the spot, I believe, but even if not, OH BOY! I am not so much a fan of Israelistyle cuisn=ine, but I always enjoy their food.
February 4, 2009 2:50 pm at 2:50 pm #666672SJSinNYCMemberI come from a long line of butchers/shochtim so I love a good steak. But I love good dairy food also (my family says milschting, which I thought people might not understand). Lasagna, stuffed shells, fettucini alfredo…I once made the most awesome fettucini with a pesto-alfredo sauce. Wow was that delicious and oh so fattening. It was for shavuos so well worth it!
February 4, 2009 3:22 pm at 3:22 pm #666673noitallmrParticipantSTEAK… a oversized mouth watering STEAK!!! How come no one here has mentioned steak. Had one of the best ones ever in J.S – Manchester, U.K. Goes without saying that you gotta wash it down with a pint of Heiniken! Ahhhhhhhhh…
Would highly recommend! And if your in Israel- Sheyan is where you wanna be.

March 1, 2009 11:17 am at 11:17 am #666676Nisht Ahe Nisht AherMemberI don’t live in Brooklyn and I was in Flatbush for shabbos, and erev shabbos I went to Benny’s pizza (there is more than one of them in Brooklyn) and I had the best whole wheat slice I have ever tasted in my entire life.
March 1, 2009 11:20 am at 11:20 am #666677Nisht Ahe Nisht AherMemberI went to J11 last night to get food for my family and I got very good pizza, but they have this new thing a Grandma slice, out of this world, but Benny’s still has better food. J11 has alot better service.
March 1, 2009 11:34 am at 11:34 am #666678Nisht Ahe Nisht AherMemberFor fast food in Brooklyn: Schnitzel King is the best, its not expensive either. They have amazing schnitzel, shwarma and burgeres. For approximately $10.00, you get almost any main dish you want, with any salad you want inside (they have good choices), a fries and a can, amazing deal.
I gotta try Subsational, I heard its good.
In Monsey-The best pizza is no question, Chai Pizza on 59 (they have good sushi too-they just got a new guy). *edited YW Moderator-39*
For Sushi & Steak: Sushi Metsuyan & KYO are both amazing, but KYO is a little more expensive.
For Chinese: Grand Bamboo on 59 is the best.
For Fast Food: There is no shayla its KC (Kosher Castle) on 59.
Bagel Stores: Eli’s Bagels is the best but they are a little too expensive for a bagel store. Fallsburg Bagels is next in line.
Ice Cream: I didn’t go to fruity shake since they changed to smoothie corner but before that it was for sure The Ice Cream Scoop on 59, my friends went to both and say The Ice Crean Scoop is better.

now squeak- don’t repeat your line “if you have to ask…” 😉
March 2, 2009 9:35 pm at 9:35 pm #666687YW Moderator-39Memberi can’t become a food critic because of all the loshon hora involved 🙁
Unless you write the restaurant review for the Jewish Press. Every restaurant reviewed is the best new place around. (If I remember correctly, however, there was once a humorous typo in a review. I think it was for Levana, but I might be mistaken)
March 2, 2009 9:35 pm at 9:35 pm #666688squeakParticipantJK – of course they pay them – but I meant that if I get all my dinners paid for (and not to mention having the restauranteer pay his utmost attention to me so that he gets a good review) that would be pay enough!
It’s like the old story with the payphone guy. I’ll post in the humor section.
March 2, 2009 9:37 pm at 9:37 pm #666689moish01Memberyou’ll get paid if you go on a talk show, no? like Arthur Schwartz.

March 2, 2009 11:49 pm at 11:49 pm #666691GOIBOFFMemberi live in toronto and milchig” milk and honey” is my ‘fav.’
March 3, 2009 12:14 am at 12:14 am #666693mazal77ParticipantAmes – I love Subsational too!! Haven’t been to the Boro Park one though. Flatbush one is too closeby to warrant a trip to BP. Ashkenaz don’t like spicy things, so I guess they adjust the taste according to the customers. I remember going to a wedding and this obvious Askenaz girl was tasting something and complaining it was to spicy. I went to try what she was having. It wasn’t spicy at all in the hot sense, but it did have a lot of herbs to it. I guess to some people, having lots of herbs is considered “spicy”
Sorry guys, to ruin the fun, but you DO NOT have exclusive rights to meat places. Schnitzel King is pretty good too. I am not going to write places I don’t like because that would be Lashon Hara.
March 3, 2009 1:49 am at 1:49 am #666695SJSinNYCMemberMazal, my family is 99% ashkenazi, but we LOVE spicy food and spiced food. I hate bland food – its almost like whats the point? I like flavors!
Ooh, where are sephardic pizza stores? I would love to try them!
March 3, 2009 2:17 am at 2:17 am #666697SJSinNYCMemberThanks Ames! We do come in (my inlaws live there) and we will definitely try it!
March 3, 2009 2:23 am at 2:23 am #666698mazal77ParticipantYes ames- Now that you mentioned it, the askenzaz pizza is sweeter – Mendelsohn’s, Amnons etc.. Must be the sugar in the tomato sauce and crust.
SJS – I’ve made recommendations to Pizza time on Avenue J many times. My friend who has had her share of non-kosher pizza said, that their pizza is the best kosher pizza she has ever had. It really is authentic Italian Pizza. The store was originally not kosher. The Italian owner went partners with a jewish man and became Kosher. They are packed and with good reason. The pizza is always made fresh. This past Motzei Shabbat – we could have had another pizza from a local place, but my friend said if she’s in Brooklyn, she wants Pizza Time pizza. They are a little pricey ($3.00 a slice) but worth it. The crust is thin and amazing.
March 3, 2009 2:26 am at 2:26 am #666699moish01Membernow we’ll know how good of a daughter-in-law sjs is – watch it be three months before she come in to brooklyn. of course we’ll know by how long it takes her to taste the pizza here…
March 3, 2009 2:39 am at 2:39 am #666700mazal77ParticipantAmes – Haven’t tried Pizza Express(On Coney Island Avenue) yet – my mother did and she said it was good. The place is tiny though. I would imagine it to be more of a takeout place rather then a sit down store, there does seem to be a couple tables when I passed by. It’s on the same side as Annie Sez, but one avenue down.
