July 30, 2010 2:49 pm at 2:49 pm #1194381gavra_at_workParticipantInteresting question:
Pistachio, but I can’t get it here (not Chalov Yisroel).
I was once in NYC (Queens) where they have a store called Max & Mina’s, which has many different flavors (some CY and some not), and picked up some strawberry cheesecake Ice Cream. It was very good, but not really an Ice Cream “flavor”.
July 30, 2010 3:00 pm at 3:00 pm #1194382blinkyParticipantHey squeak-soft is not a flavor!!!!
July 30, 2010 3:06 pm at 3:06 pm #1194383squeakParticipantIs this thread serious? Ice cream really comes in different flavors? When did that happen?
July 30, 2010 3:09 pm at 3:09 pm #1194384WolfishMusingsParticipantHeh. No discussion of ice cream flavors is complete without talking about Max & Mina’s. 🙂

“Nearly three-quarters of a century ago, two brothers-in-law shared a dream to create an innovative ice cream store that would be a neighborhood gathering place for families. Burton “Burt” Baskin and Irvine “Irv” Robbins had a mutual love of old-fashioned ice cream and the desire to provide customers a variety of flavors made with ingredients of the highest quality in a fun, inviting atmosphere.”

July 30, 2010 3:24 pm at 3:24 pm #1194388squeakParticipantWow, I guess I haven’t eaten ice cream in a long time.
July 30, 2010 3:27 pm at 3:27 pm #1194389Sister BearMemberPralines and Cream, Cookies and Cream, or Cookie Dough!!!!!
July 30, 2010 3:29 pm at 3:29 pm #1194390gavra_at_workParticipantMax well: It was a while back, and only some flavors were CY (they were listed on a board on the back wall, to the far left of the flavor list).
This may have changed, and they may no longer have any CY flavors.
July 30, 2010 3:36 pm at 3:36 pm #1194391blinkyParticipantSiter Bear-I always wanted to try cookie dough-but i chickened out (never mind when I bake i like to lick the bowl!) Does it really taste like it sounds?
July 30, 2010 3:44 pm at 3:44 pm #1194392WolfishMusingsParticipantThis may have changed, and they may no longer have any CY flavors.
I was last there about six months ago. They had some CY flavors then — but they were usually the “traditional” flavors and not the wacky ones that M&M is known for.

Yes (assuming you mean Max & Mina’s and not M&M Mars. 🙂 )

July 30, 2010 4:45 pm at 4:45 pm #1194397smartcookieMemberI can’t believe no one mentioned coffee. That’s my favorite. Vanilla would probably come next.
(I love coffee ice cream topped with hot fudge and cookie crumbs!)
July 30, 2010 4:53 pm at 4:53 pm #1194398ronrsrMemberMint Chocolate Chip – a favorite of mine since childhood.
July 30, 2010 4:54 pm at 4:54 pm #1194399gavra_at_workParticipantIttisa asked me to mention her favorite flavor is Vanilla soft. Does not like chocolate.

July 30, 2010 4:58 pm at 4:58 pm #1194401YW Moderator-80MemberIf this thread stalls we can open one on your least favorite flavor.
Mine is black licorice.

Go learn some gemorah and get back to me 🙂
July 30, 2010 5:02 pm at 5:02 pm #1194403YW Moderator-80MemberAnother flavor I really don’t like is Herring Ice Cream.
July 30, 2010 5:05 pm at 5:05 pm #1194404YW Moderator-80MemberSauerkraut and Fudge?
July 30, 2010 5:13 pm at 5:13 pm #1194405postsemgirlMemberMy best flavor of ice cream is coffee but I cant find any cholov yisroel coffee ice cream here. too bad. thats what happens when you live out of town.
July 30, 2010 5:17 pm at 5:17 pm #1194406HashemLovesMeMembercookie dough is my favorite by far (and i just had it yesterday for the first time in three yrs, cuz i can’t get it cholov yisroel (i took on cy in 10th grade)so someone who knows my father was catering some kind of event and cookie dough was ordered (parve) and he ended up having extra, so he gave some to my father special for me!!!!!!! i am so thankful! (of course, i just sit there pickin out the dough!) blinky, don’t chicken out! it’s soooooooooo good, just like reg cookie dough. just in ice cream.

July 30, 2010 5:47 pm at 5:47 pm #1194407ronrsrMemberMeatball-Fudge Ripple.
July 30, 2010 6:22 pm at 6:22 pm #1194408YW Moderator-80MemberMeatball fudge ripple is pretty bad but it cant compete with (combination of above)
herring-sauerkraut-vanilla swirl
July 30, 2010 6:26 pm at 6:26 pm #1194409WolfishMusingsParticipantPutting aside Max & Mina-style flavors, I’d have to say my favorite is Rocky Road, followed by a dark, deep chocolate.

July 30, 2010 7:38 pm at 7:38 pm #1194410tomim tihyeMemberMy husband says any flavor other than chocolate or vanilla is not ice cream, it’s a perversion.
July 30, 2010 7:41 pm at 7:41 pm #1194411tomim tihyeMemberI say as long as it’s dairy and unrelated to anything salty/savory, it’s delicious!
July 30, 2010 9:15 pm at 9:15 pm #1194412Dr. PepperParticipantI can’t believe no one mentioned pickles and ice cream or pickle flavored ice cream.
July 30, 2010 9:43 pm at 9:43 pm #1194413Max WellMembertomim tihye – I’m sorry to read about your shalom bayis issue.
Perhaps your husband and yourself should avoid ice cream altogether.
July 30, 2010 10:16 pm at 10:16 pm #1194414oomisParticipantNo question about it – PISTACHIO, followed by Jamoca Almond Fudge, Heavenly Hash, and anything with chocoltae chunks, cherries, and banana.
Least favorite – cholent-flavored and M&M had this, don’t know if they still do.
BTW, M & M candies ARE kosher, just not CH”Y.
July 30, 2010 10:30 pm at 10:30 pm #1194415chofetzchaimMemberDoes Max and Mina’s have earwax flavor?

August 1, 2010 8:51 am at 8:51 am #1194417minyan galMemberMango – absolutely without question.
August 1, 2010 6:07 pm at 6:07 pm #1194418Sister BearMemberBlinky – I haven’t had it in a while since normally it’s chocolate chip cookie dough but if you get big chunks of cookie dough I think it does taste good.
August 1, 2010 7:56 pm at 7:56 pm #1194419kapustaParticipantfave flavor- cookie dough (or if necessary cookies and cream. But its not half as good) and blinky you’re losing out on not trying it…
worst flavor- a fruity ice cream. Fruit is fruit and ice cream is ice cream. But a good fruit sorbet is always good.
Does Max and Mina’s have earwax flavor?
Yes, right near the vomit style ice cream.
August 2, 2010 12:55 am at 12:55 am #1194420oomisParticipant“I can’t believe no one mentioned pickles and ice cream or pickle flavored ice cream”
Only gets sold to pregnant women (kills two birds with one stone).
August 2, 2010 2:15 am at 2:15 am #1194421d aMemberMine is a vanilla soft ice cream IN A CONE with peanut topping. YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM!
Now, about the other flavors…go try some Jelly Belly Jelly Beans. YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!
August 2, 2010 3:10 pm at 3:10 pm #1194422blinkyParticipantWow so much happened since i last was in the cr…
herring, pickes, meatbals… You are not serious right? It sounds like what da said-to try out jelly bellies.
Other favorites- pina colada, cookies and cream, pistachio(w/o the nuts).
Favorite topping-hot fudge, coconut
Least favorite-I like em all!!!!
August 2, 2010 4:08 pm at 4:08 pm #1194423squeakParticipantKishke
August 2, 2010 4:35 pm at 4:35 pm #1194424blinkyParticipant“Kishke” ?????????????????
Hey squeak-earlier in this thread you said that you didn’t know ice cream came in different flavors. i guess you forgot about good old kishke ice cream with oil on top-YUM!
August 2, 2010 4:39 pm at 4:39 pm #1194425squeakParticipantblinky, once this tread opened my eyes, I knew I had to get out there and find out for myself if there really were different flavors of ice cream.
So I headed down to the city, where they have stores with ice boxes, and what do you know – they had more than 30 flavors! I thought it was a joke, but I sampled them all. Then I went to a different store and tried some more. My favorite was the kishke.
August 2, 2010 5:32 pm at 5:32 pm #1194426blinkyParticipantsqueak-cool! At this rate you can buy your whole Shabbos menu made out of ice cream. Then you can tell ppl you had milchig cholent on shabbos….
August 2, 2010 9:54 pm at 9:54 pm #1194427bptParticipantI really miss Haggen-daaz Rum Raisin and Carvel Butterscotch.
All the CY stuff tastes pretty much the same, so picking a “favorite” is kinda pointless.
