Pullout shelves in the cabinets, broom closet, full extension drawers, electric outlets, a gadget drawer that has a plug in the drawer so you don’t see all the items charging on the counter.

backsplash, appliance allowance and installation, sufficient lighting where you want it eg under cabinet, over cabinet, spots, chandelier or cloud. Cabinet quality and options.

make sure the kitchen maker has the dimensions of your appliances. make sure the kitchen maker knows where your water and gas are and need to be. moved or not moved. window finishings.make sure you can open fridge, oven, dishwasher and cabinet doors with enough room to walk through.

i ahve a galley kitchen and it is narrow. every inch counted. my cabinets for food are floor to ceiling and i love them. abover the counters i went up to the ceilings as well. make sure to request the molding be included too. i did not want 8-10 inches of space from the ceiling to the top of the cabinet for dust collection. thats all i can think of right now. good luck!

If the people make a major mistake, they must fix it free of charge.

ANY mistake should be fixed FREE of charge. Also, even after the kitchen is completely finished, the cabinets (and countertops) should have some sort of manufacturer’s warranty (with the labor for fixing the defect included in the warranty). Do not pay in full if the kitchen is not completely finished to your satisfaction. Generally, once you pay in full, they will not come back so quickly to fix something.

check out how your refrigerator opens up – right hinge or left hinge. Is there space for at least a 90 degree opening.

Based on real stories that have happened to friends and neighbors, make sure your contractor comes recommended and with the following qualifications:

1- Make sure your contractor knows what a tape measure is and that it should be used before cutting countertops.

2- Make sure your contractor knows that cabinets must be installed as well as assembled. (Happened to an older couple who couldn’t do it themselves)

3- Make sure your contractor is capable of hooking up your sink and gas line if necessary. If he’s really just a handyman who can install IKEA cabinets this isn’t a given.
