As I was coming into shul tonight I noticed that the person in front of me (someone I know, a regular at minyan) had lost their yamulkah. They preceded to their seat and sat down to daven. I was kind of torn what to do. On the one hand it is inappropriate to daven without a yamalkah, on the other hand I did not want to embarrass them and tell them they have not been wearing one for who knows how long. I think I might be embarassed in such a case. Someone else ended up getting him one . What would you have done?
Think, if you would be the one who lost his Yarmulka without noticing, would you appreciate if someone told you?(Even if it would be somewhat embarrassing the first minute.)
This has helped me a lot. I think how I would want to be treated, in any area, and that’s what I do for others!
“On the one hand it is inappropriate to daven without a yamalkah,”
Not just inappropriate, it is one of the things that is meakev shomneh esrei (see rambam hilchos tefilla), he would have had to daven again. I would have told him it must have fallen off in the hall and given him mine.
It’s kind if the same dilemma like when you are with someone at a restaurant and they get something stuck in their teeth! Would you tell them or not? I would want to be told if it were me,but I would,I admit, have difficulty telling that to someone else!
