You probably have quite a few years of learning on your resume.
You still aspire to remain a ben Torah despite leaving the confines of a yeshiva.
Almost certainly have a filter on your smartphone if not a flip phone.
Your willing to display your unique frum identity even as you go out into the business world.
Your willing to be an annoyance to more modern Jews who can’t understand why you can’t just blend in with everyone else.

If you wear a white shirt, you are probably not a working man. At best you’re a businessman, which is not the same thing.

    Haimy,

How do you know me so well

Cooking is usually very messy. Ask any baalhabosta (housewife)! Things spray, drip, leak, stain, splatter, oil, grease….yet in every fine restaurant the chef wears white…explain why that does not apply to. plumbers or electricians?!

Rebbitzen, chefs wear white to reassure people that they are in fact clean, because wearing white makes it easy to tell if they are not clean. Plumbers and electricians should ideally wear clean clothes too, but it’s not as important because they don’t work with food.

Reb Yid, I have a clean kitchen and the plumber in my kitchen or electrician in my bedroom better be clean too. Do I want a greasy plumber smelling of toilet residue puttering around my kitchen sink?! Those who work in my kitchen, whether chef or plumber, better be clean and not bring in contaminants! If the chef wears white, I see no problem if the plumber wears white.

But what about the opposite; do you care if the plumber is clean when he is dealing with your toilet?

    @Rebetzin
That chef is wearing whites that come from a linen supply or uniform company who bleached and launders them.
The plumber or carpenter who gets greasy fixing you pipes owns his clothes and his wife is stuck laundering them. Trying to keep them pristine while running a household is not feasible, thus the dark colors.

Restaurant cooking isn’t as messy as home cooking.

Surgeons wear colors such as green or blue to make the blood stains less noticeable. That’s dishonest. They should wear white, and then be rated according to the amount of blood stains. That way the patients could avoid the clumsy ones.

I work, I learn in my spare time, and I learn quite a bit B”H. I wear a white shirt by choice, not to tell anyone about myself, not because I believe it means anything special. I have several friends who wear colored shirts, and they learn a lot more than quite a few white-shirted acquaintances. Their davening is also quite a bit more sincere. No, I’m not judging what occurs between them and HKB”H. But you can detect seriousness in someone’s tefilah, as opposed to the rote, habitual, robotic practice that allows for daydreaming, talking during davening, etc.

I am scouring whatever literature there is about white shirts to see what Torah value it really means. Haven’t found anything yet. The only reference to any white clothing is the Ari Zal who stated that it is appropriate to wear 4 white garments on Shabbos. Anything I missed? Please enlighten.

DovidBT, surgeons wear green or blue to make blood more visible to them.

There are many shitos on line explaining why surgeons davka wear green or blue.

One shita is like Reb Yid mentioned, that green and blue are opposite to red on the color wheel … enabling the surgeon to detect even small hemorrhages in the operation field.

Another shita is like DovidBT, that green scrubs and surgical linens were originally adopted in the 1950’s because blood stains often leave a greenish discolouration when laundered.

Blue was introduced in the 70’s because it is more soothing on the eyes.

But here is the pin that busts this balloon:

Surgeons in the operating room wear surgical gowns over their scrubs – so there is no nafka mina what color the scrubs are (the blood gets on the gown, the eyes see the gown not the scrub, the stains get on the gown) …so does that make you fellas trolls?!

Growing up, when my father wore a white shirt it meant it was Shabbos or he was going to sit shiva.
