Can anyone guess what I do on shabbos? 🙂
September 5, 2011 10:30 pm at 10:30 pm #806483The FrumguyParticipantBais Medrash because it’s quiet and respectful and a Kavannah-filled, slow davening.

September 5, 2011 11:33 pm at 11:33 pm #806486Emunas ItechaMemberShteibel… alot of singing
September 5, 2011 11:36 pm at 11:36 pm #806487happiestMembershtiebel. The singing is just so moving and inspiring. I always feel like my kavana is so much stronger when I’m in a shul with a lot of nice chassidish singing.
September 6, 2011 12:03 am at 12:03 am #806488minyan galMemberMy own shul. I love the “haimeshe” feeling on Saturday morning where there is a lot of hugging going on. A stranger coming to our shul is only a stranger for a few minutes. Someone will “adopt” them very quickly. If they are new in the city, they will have many Shabbat invitations. The music is wonderful – I think our Chazzan is tops and I love his tunes. I am just plain comfortable there.

September 6, 2011 6:08 am at 6:08 am #806492WIYMemberAny shul that has a nice slow Davening and the singing is nice as well as the Oilum doesn’t talk by Davening.
September 6, 2011 6:12 am at 6:12 am #806493am yisrael chaiParticipantI actually agree with WIY.
Simply shocking.

Twice in one day! You sure everythings alright? 🙂

We’d better get the thermometer…something’s definitely up 😉
Oh, I get it, technically it’s not the same day anymore…

Its still the same coffeeroom day lol.
September 6, 2011 6:54 am at 6:54 am #806497am yisrael chaiParticipantWIY
I would only add a nice dvar Torah, no talking during laining, & friendly camaraderie afterwards.
Ok, I’ll still have to get that thermometer…

When I said no talking I was including laining as well. I don’t feel the need for the Rave to talk although its always a nice thing especially if he is a good speaker and he is inspiring. The camaraderie after soul is a nice touch as well but certainly not necessary and not part of the shul experience. A shul is for Torah and Tefillah. Its not a social club. If people want to schmooze in the hallways or in front of the soul kol hakavod.
September 6, 2011 11:30 am at 11:30 am #806499ToiParticipantbais medrash. you get an oilam thats there to be clse to hashem, not close to a bottle of booze. minyan gal- music and hugging? what type of shul is that?
September 6, 2011 11:38 am at 11:38 am #806500mommamia22ParticipantA smaller shul where the people are really welcoming and looking to grow and are non-judgmental. A shul that welcomes everyone, yet has a very frum core. Nigunim, not chazzanus. A place where davening means something and people want to connect with Hash-em, but they won’t yell at people or give them dirty looks if they can’t get their kids to be quiet…..a rav who’s reachable and wants to connect.
September 6, 2011 3:45 pm at 3:45 pm #806501WIYMemberMommamia
Kids don’t belong in shul if all they will be doing is making noise and disturbing other Daveners as well as their parents.
There is really no reason to bring a kid to shul unless they are old enough to say part of Davening and can sit STILL for at least a few minutes and understand to be quiet and not disturb.

September 6, 2011 9:40 pm at 9:40 pm #806504bptParticipantCarlebach minyan, when I can find one. Otherwise its a shteeble or chassidus. The bais places drive me nuts with their obsession to zmanim.
Membeship / Board places are only under duress
September 6, 2011 9:41 pm at 9:41 pm #806505bptParticipant“My own shul….where there is a lot of hugging going on.”
Do you mean Rabbi Twersky’s place on Ave L? I’ve been there, and its really a great place.
September 7, 2011 3:37 am at 3:37 am #806506minyan galMemberI don’t mean Rabbi Twersky’s place. I mean my own Canadian shul on the prairies. For Toi – by music, I mean the tunes that we use during davening. We don’t have an orchestra playing, although that might be very nice – you never know.
