Getzel1, so i come back to the CR, and i see you said in one line what i tried to say in a whole long megillah! Thanks, or in case You are heimish, shkoiach!
July 10, 2012 7:12 pm at 7:12 pm #884082choppyParticipantgolfer: A Heimish Yid, at minimum, hold from Daas Torah and mesorah. It may mean much more than that much, but that is a fundamental across the board.
As an aside, it is a hemishe minhag that the fathers walk the choson and the mothers walk the kallah to the chupa. Though a minority eschew that.
July 10, 2012 7:14 pm at 7:14 pm #884083GetzelParticipantGolfer you actually wrote it very very well, yes Heimish is not a bad thing at all i love heimish yeshivish, heimish chasidish, or heimish modern, But the other heimish ALONE is not enough, a cool heimish person that drives a SUV and has long peyos down behind his ears with sunglasses etc.. that you may want to call a TUNA BEIGEl, Heimish can be the most eidil nice people (Tuna beigels may also be but are diffrent)
Golfer ich huf az di vest kennen shpilen abisel Golf in der hitz!
July 10, 2012 8:12 pm at 8:12 pm #884084golferParticipantGetzel, in der hitz, ich gei shvimmen. I wish…
July 11, 2012 6:52 am at 6:52 am #884085MammeleParticipantShticky, you left out my comparison to the word landsman, so don’t be too offended about not being considered heimish by others. Everyone feels closer to their own kind, doesn’t mean everybody else is bad, just different. So smile and listen out for moshiach…
April 16, 2017 12:34 am at 12:34 am #1254473Neville ChaimBerlinParticipantI guess we’ll have to wait until Moshiach to know what Heimishe really means…
April 19, 2017 11:02 pm at 11:02 pm #1257793LayalaParticipantOn a side note, where does the term ‘Tuna Beigel’ originate from?
April 20, 2017 12:20 am at 12:20 am #1257909JosephParticipantApril 20, 2017 9:45 am at 9:45 am #1258003zahavasdadParticipantTuna Beigel is someone who looks frum , but doesnt act that way
Greasy I cant really descrobe, but it has something to do with being “too frum” or something like that
April 20, 2017 9:46 am at 9:46 am #1258002Ex-CTLawyerParticipantI’ve stayed away from this thread for years, but now will put in my observation.
From the Yekke side of my family….
Heimish is ‘real’ unpolished, not putting in airs or false sophistication. A taste of ‘real’ life where a momma raising multiple children without servants doesn’t worry if the kugel has a few well done crusty edges and doesn’t look like a picture in Gourmet magazine.
The Heimish bakery has things that taste good, not look good without taam.Heimish people do and make, not have their servants do it for them and let dinner guests rave about the the hostess’ cooking.
April 24, 2017 4:33 pm at 4:33 pm #1261608rebshidduchParticipantI am “heimeish” in between chasidish and yeshivish but then I just call my self yeshivish but really I am “heimeish”.
April 24, 2017 8:38 pm at 8:38 pm #1261677Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantYou’re in between chassidish and yeshivish?
April 26, 2017 2:41 pm at 2:41 pm #1263053rebshidduchParticipantLilmod, if your asking me then yes I am.
April 26, 2017 4:47 pm at 4:47 pm #1263387Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantSo why are you looking for someone who is Modern Yeshivish?
April 26, 2017 7:13 pm at 7:13 pm #1263657rebshidduchParticipantLilmod, I am looking for someone yeshivish and earning full time.
April 26, 2017 7:28 pm at 7:28 pm #1263683Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantWould that be “earning full-time?” or learning fulltime? 🙂
April 26, 2017 7:32 pm at 7:32 pm #1263688Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantHow do I get rid of this “Shadchan List ” thread that keeps popping up? It’s really annoying!
April 26, 2017 8:18 pm at 8:18 pm #1263718rebshidduchParticipantLilmod, I agree I cannot see any replies.
April 27, 2017 12:56 pm at 12:56 pm #1264223apushatayidParticipant“in between chasidish and yeshivish”
That may make you chashivish (which I think means a little bit important) or Yasidish, which may you a member of the Yazidis in which case I dont think either someone who is chassidish, or yeshivish would be interested.
