Okay…so I just got my weekly manicure and guess who I saw there..an older “frum” yarmulka wearing around 60 yr old MAN…. I was shocked…
What do you think???? Is this normal in the frum world (I didn’t think so)!!!
January 7, 2011 4:03 pm at 4:03 pm #726377Sam l AmMembermemo, if the manicure place does men, even if no frum men would have come, non-frum or non-Jewish men would. So how could you be there?
January 7, 2011 4:04 pm at 4:04 pm #726378bptParticipantWas your manicure done at the podiatrist? Not so terrible.
Was it done at a nail salon? That’s creepy. Feh.
January 7, 2011 4:06 pm at 4:06 pm #726379popa_bar_abbaParticipantIt is totally normal. Most yeshiva guys get it done in yeshiva for a few bucks. We usually get haircuts from guys in yeshiva also.
If you had said pedicure, I would be surprised.
January 7, 2011 4:07 pm at 4:07 pm #726380mynamesixonethreeParticipantNo way! Far from normal. Maybe he lost a bet. :}
January 7, 2011 4:09 pm at 4:09 pm #726381pumperMembermemo-
he was getting a manicure or waiting for his wife?
Never heard of that before!
January 7, 2011 4:18 pm at 4:18 pm #726382memoMemberhe was getting a manicure–I didn’t see a wife around…
Btw I never see guys at my nail salon-jewish or non-jewish…..ya it was pretty creepy!
January 7, 2011 4:37 pm at 4:37 pm #726384mikehall12382Memberwas it a women giving it to him???
January 7, 2011 4:40 pm at 4:40 pm #726385elikParticipantwell to be dan lacaf zechus I and others have problems with our nails and need a pedi for medical reasons
also might not be assur these days as alot of men do it
January 7, 2011 4:56 pm at 4:56 pm #726386aries2756ParticipantI don’t like to see men in OUR salon. My manicurist knows not to seat any man near me. I personally feel that there are enough nail salons around that if men in our neighborhood want to, they should drive an extra 20 minutes to the next town.
January 7, 2011 4:59 pm at 4:59 pm #726387RuphRuphMemberMyName,
On the contrary, he won the bet.
January 7, 2011 5:03 pm at 5:03 pm #726388apushatayidParticipantMy dermatologist (frum man) recommended I get a manicure (and pedicure) for dermatology reasons. A female member of his office helped me find a place to get it done – quite a distance from the nearest frum community. She also gave me several tips on proper protocol (what to ask for, how much to tip etc..), bless her soul 🙂
January 7, 2011 5:22 pm at 5:22 pm #726389bptParticipant” We usually get haircuts from guys in yeshiva also.”
This, I can see (in fact, my boys’ haircuts are better than mine).
But manicures? This, I gotta verify. If this is the norm today, my kids would know about it.
I’m almost afraid to ask.. but I will.
January 7, 2011 5:56 pm at 5:56 pm #726390mikehall12382Membergood for him everyone needs to relax and take it easy once in a while…I personally wouldn’t fo it, but maybe at 60??? who knows!
January 10, 2011 7:36 pm at 7:36 pm #726391bptParticipantMy sons assure me that manincures are NOT the norm in their circle. They knew of one guy who had it done for his chasseneh, but that’s it.
And aftershave is also passe in the cirles they travel in
January 10, 2011 8:30 pm at 8:30 pm #726392popa_bar_abbaParticipantI know. I was lying.
January 10, 2011 9:19 pm at 9:19 pm #726393apushatayidParticipantAs long as they use deodorant.
January 10, 2011 9:46 pm at 9:46 pm #726394memoMemberya. mostly all the nail salons have ladies working there…it’s most prob. not allowed….Just I was shocked and I was almost going to leave but I had sat down already a couple chairs away….please if men do go go out of their local area…it’s weird!
January 10, 2011 9:54 pm at 9:54 pm #726395ImaofthreeParticipantOne time I was getting my nails done and a frum chassidish looking fellow came in and wanted facial waxing.
January 11, 2011 1:05 am at 1:05 am #726396bein_hasdorimParticipantaries2756; I totally agree. You have to have at least enough sechel to know it’s odd even in the goyishe world, not talking about metros, italian mobsters etc… So go to some goyishe place
that doesnt have any heimshe clientele.
I’m sure you’ll get s’char halicha or at least credit for not creeping out jewish women or puting them in a lifnei Iver sitch of having to be dan you lekaf Z’chus that you’re a Tzudreiter.
