I am only in my 30’s however I feel my mind is not as sharp as it use to be. I suppose we can blame it on little sleep, over worked, tired, raising children, sleepless nights and social isolation, plus lack of intellectual stimulation (unless if you count the CR), but it does concern me!

I use to have a great memory. Detail, dates, and years like you wouldn’t believe. Now I can’t tell you what I ate yesterday.

I am worried also because say, like I would be looking at and talking to a neighbor in the face and only after we’ve parted does it dawn on me oh I owed her a mazel tov, or a thank you.

Its like I am not clued in half the time. Or I forget appts. or people’s simchas or that I borrowed something.

I feel my mind is not strong. What can I do to strenghten it ???

The first thing I would tell you is to see a Neurologist just to make sure that everything is 100% medically. You could have a vitamin deficiency that you need to supplement. The doctor will advise you to do Brain games and probably exercise. Brain games will include things like Soduko, scrabble, boggle, trivia games, etc.

Forgive yourself for not remembering. You wouldn’t believe how many people are plagued by this. When you remember something that you didn’t recall earlier, just apologize and explain lack of sleep, etc… All will understand. I’m in a fog most of the time, and figure I’ll wake up eventually, feeling that I was partially sleepwalking through my kids youth. So be it. If you’re “game”, the one thing you can do that would sharpen your mind is cardio exercise (walk briskly, run, bike, etc). Kids who needed to be more alert for school and exams were found to perform better after some kind of cardio exercise.

I once read a study that said that listening to classical music raised people’s IQ by up to seven points or so.

Go to the American Mensa web site and play games.
