He would be remembered every single day, all day (like the ramp near the Brooklyn Bridge where the shooting took place years ago, named for Ari Halberstam a”h, violently taken, so young)!

This little angelic innocent boy a”h deserves it! We should never forget him!

The street where he was abducted should be named for him, but all of 13th Ave is going a bit far. We have Bobov Promenade as an auxiliary street name for one block in BP and Joel Teitelbaum Square for one block in WB. The same formula should be used for this block as well.

I started a Facebook page Leiby Kletzky Avenue (Leiby is the first name, Kletzky Avenue is the last name), if anyone is interested.

I think thats alil too much and ppl arent going to forget this. ppl want to walk down the street and not feel sad everytime they walk down the street. supporting the Leiby Kletzky fund is a good way of not forgetting about him.

Some people want to eliminate internet altogether. If everyone knew how many Shidduchim came about through the internet, they’d be stunned. Its like the multiple uses of fire. Fire can destroy and fire can provide warmth.

Personally every time Im reminded of the Ari Halberstam saga, by noticing the signs, I get renewed passion to make the most of every minute for good causes. NOT saddened. The mourning period is over.

If I remember correctly, there is a section in NY named after Ari Halberstam. Does anyone know where?

    AC,

Between the FDR and the Brooklyn Bridge.

Yes, i think it would make me sad every time I passed it ( street/ave named after Leiby) and maybe depressed, but ater we all learn to cope and deal with it, I think it will be a powerful reminder and symbol.

Why not 18th Avenue or 16th Avenue instead of 13th Avenue?

    #790269

While the idea has some merits, I’m not so sure it’s practical for an entire road. Aren’t giving tzedakah and doing tshuva in his merit a greater remembrance.

Chein Why not 18th Avenue or 16th Avenue instead of 13th Avenue?

Its def. the avenue with the heaviest traffic, its also def. where the tragedy began to unfold (the missed turn) and I believe that it’ll give everyone who remembers the tragedy and the very unique resulting sensitivity and unity, a positive jolt and a burst of energy to do good, and make the best of every minute for good causes, every single time they think of innocent Leiby.

13th was the missed turn, but 18th is where he was last and 16th is closest to his home.

“I think it will be a powerful reminder and symbol”

It would be a powerful reminder and symbol for all the goyim that one Jew murdered an innocent defenseless Jewish lad.

We unfortunately have had more than our share; let’s commemorate the tragedy in the ways our chazal have provided.

I think its just as much for our advantage as his memory. In addition to the above, the subconscious thought and internal message to do as much good as we can, bec. we can be healthy and here today and there tomorrow ch”v. A reminder to put nonsense aside and create Zchusim while we can.

I don’t think this is a good idea. Sorry. And I agree with Cherrybim’s thinking, also.

There are many ways to commemorate Leiby O”H. Tzedaka funds, taking on personal mitzvos in which we may be a little lax, learning, etc.

Are we negatively impacted by having the “Ari Halberstam” ramp in Manhattan?

Chein, it surely means alot to the family that their son is remembered regularly and will continue to be remembered for a very long time.

But haven’t the Kletzy’s made their wishes quite clearly known by establishing a tzedaka in Leiby’s name? The Halberstams wanted that ramp to be named for Ari. Who says that Leiby’s parents want something similiar?

There have been many victims of terror since the bridge shooting incident where an Arab terrorist succeeded in his aim to kill Jewish children. However, to single out one individual over others does not do us well.

It would be nice if some Safe park or play ground was donated or established in BP in his name. That would definitely be much more appropriate and serve a better purpose. Naming the avenue will just bring back fearful memories and questions to all the kids in the neighborhood. Leiby’s nature was to help people. Establishing a park in his honor would be much more appropriate and beneficial to kids his age and others and a better way to remember him IMHO.
