So a woman came into the store where I work and asked if we have any wife beaters I wasn’t sure what she meant by that, she said wife beaters they are t-shirts without sleeves how weird is that.
July 11, 2014 6:42 pm at 6:42 pm #1074043👑RebYidd23ParticipantThose t-shirts are for men why did she ask.
July 11, 2014 6:53 pm at 6:53 pm #1074044☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDid she at least buy salt and batteries?
July 11, 2014 7:29 pm at 7:29 pm #1074045TheGoqParticipantyes DY and fruit punch too.
July 11, 2014 7:51 pm at 7:51 pm #1074046oomisParticipantThey call the A-shirts “wife-beaters” (I dislike that term, by the way), because typically when you think of some white trash guy with a beer in one hand sitting in front of the TV in this type of sleeveless undershirt, the image is the type of guy who is abusive to his wife. It is a disgusting expression for an article of clothing, in my opinion.
July 11, 2014 8:44 pm at 8:44 pm #1074048Bookworm120Participant@Goq – Aren’t those called … tank tops?
@rebyidd – Maybe she was buying them for her husband.July 13, 2014 2:45 am at 2:45 am #1074049👑RebYidd23ParticipantWhy would a woman want her husband wearing something called a wife beater?
July 13, 2014 3:04 am at 3:04 am #1074050oomisParticipantThey are actually tank tops, but the “WB” name was very popular. If you look at a package of men’s undershirts, you will see they are called “A-shirts.” Or at least, they used to be. No one in my household wears them.
April 23, 2015 10:55 am at 10:55 am #1074051TheGoqParticipantOk ive been working in a supermarket for 3 months now and I find it interesting how men and women buy groceries these are generalities and there are exceptions of course but it still holds true
If you are a macho type guy you will…
throw your items on the belt
be offended if i ask if you have coupons cause come on what real man uses coupons
be ready to pay before i have even scanned your products and act very impatient as if i am making you late for your bench presses
more often than not pay in cash never with a check
when i hand you the receipt you might say you can throw that out (oh gee can i really?) or say i don’t want that
call me chief which i find very obnoxious
pile the stuff up to the sky on the belt as if that will make it go faster , quite the contrary.
If you are a housewife you will…
be patient and smile and make with the chit chat
will sometimes pay by check or cash but more often with plastic
use coupons with regularity
be more likely to compliment you to the manager (which is sweet cause i get a 5 dollar voucher for a customer compliment)
most people will help to bag a very small minority will not
i find that a lot people who buy cigarettes are grumpier than most but that could just be my perception and they usually mutter what kind of cigarretes they want or say it too fast and get peeved if i ask them to repeat themselves
most people are kind and good natured those who are not are the minority.
April 27, 2015 3:29 pm at 3:29 pm #1074052TheGoqParticipantI would also say that the hispanics have the healthiest diet of any nation of shoppers they buy a lot of fruits and vegetables especially oranges and plum tomatoes.
April 27, 2015 7:02 pm at 7:02 pm #1074053👑RebYidd23ParticipantDo people who wear ties act differently than people who don’t?
April 29, 2015 7:36 pm at 7:36 pm #1074054SayIDidItâ„¢ParticipantGoq™, those are very interesting observations! Keep em coming!

April 30, 2015 2:59 am at 2:59 am #1074055Rebbe YidParticipantGoq: I find your post very interesting, as I’ve never worked in a supermarket, but wondered about certain things. In particular:
1. Is it easier for the staff if I pay by cash, or by CC?
2. Is it common in the industry to get bonuses for customer compliments?
3. It’s possible that the smokers are embarrassed to ask for smokes, or maybe not having had one in a while makes them grumpy, or they smoke to overcome their depression.
April 30, 2015 6:15 am at 6:15 am #1074056This name is already takenParticipantCredit card is definitely the easiest
April 30, 2015 7:21 am at 7:21 am #1074057TheGoqParticipantThank you Rebbe Yid to no 1 I guess a cc is easier but it does not really matter, 2 i cannot speak for other stores but this is the policy in ours my store takes customer service very seriously, 3 it does seem they missed their nap and are grumpy for it that is just the way it seems to me. April 30, 2015 5:29 pm at 5:29 pm #1074058👑RebYidd23ParticipantHow can you tell the difference between a housewife and a woman who is not a housewife?
April 30, 2015 6:07 pm at 6:07 pm #1074059TheGoqParticipantOk maybe housewife was a politically incorrect thing to say a mother/wife then.
