Does anyone know of any weight loss medications that are not herbal? I tried topomax which is not meant for weight loss but can cause weight loss but it didn’t seem to agree or work for me. Any ideas? I am mucho desperate!!!!
Thanks in advance!

What do you mean by not herbal?
July 13, 2011 2:28 am at 2:28 am #995604happiestMemberI don’t want any of that acai (or however you spell it) stuff. They’re not safe. I’m not in2 herbal remedies or herbal medications. In my opinion (and my Drs’), they’re all fake and unsafe.
July 13, 2011 3:49 am at 3:49 am #995605WIYMemberI know of a product that is 100% natural that many frum people have taken and it works. Im not able to give you more info here but if you want more info you can ask the mods for my email address. This is a product that really works.
July 13, 2011 4:10 am at 4:10 am #995608yankdownunderMemberHappiest why don’t you speak to your Doctor and ask him to help you develop a Weight Loss Program not from a tablet, but from a Diet from food.

I agree with yankdownunder. As much as a pill can help, the main thing is to learn how to eat healthily and to develop a consistent exercise program that works for you. Pills are only a temporary aid.
July 13, 2011 9:38 am at 9:38 am #995611600 Kilo BearMemberSeriously, don’t play around. See a doctor. Topamax is not marketed for weight loss and unless you’re already on it for other reasons you should not be able to get hold of it.
July 13, 2011 6:22 pm at 6:22 pm #995612Legen-daryMember600 Kilo Bear- I back up what he said!
ASK YOUR DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DONT GO RUNNING FOR THE EAASY WAY OUT- IT COULD END UP HURTING YOU VERY BADLY!!!
THINK, AND ASK BEFORE YOU ACT!!
July 14, 2011 12:37 am at 12:37 am #995613happiestMemberDon’t worry. I was under the care of a Dr when I was put on the Topomax. I have been on many diets under a Dr and nutritionists care. It seems like this is my last option…
July 14, 2011 1:23 am at 1:23 am #995614HealthParticipant“It seems like this is my last option…”
Wrong. There is weight loss surgery and gastric banding. Each one has their own benefits & risks.
July 14, 2011 2:40 am at 2:40 am #995615oomisParticipantThere is no quick fix, not even the lap band, which has its own risks. No one becomes overweight overnight, and no one loses weight safely and healthfully overnight, either.
July 14, 2011 3:01 am at 3:01 am #995616lb72Participantwhat has worked for me in the past is weight loss medication called phentermine. it suppresses your appetite makes it easier to control your cravings and stick to a low calorie diet. ask your doctor for prescription.
July 14, 2011 3:40 am at 3:40 am #995617aries2756ParticipantHappiest, firstly you need to figure out why you are gaining or retaining the weight. That would mean you need a full physical work-up with labs. Go to a good endocrinologist and not just an internist. A good doctor will check everything out to make sure all systems are working ok. Then he will discuss with your other doctors if any medication can be changed to those that are not weight gainers.
This is NOT something someone else can recommend for you. What works for one may not work for someone else. Everyone has to deal with their own metabolism and genes. My doc figured out that my metabolism was basically not working and that there was something else off. I needed a certain medication to balance things out for me and I lost weight by not only taking the meds he gave me but also by following the rules he gave me. I get regular blood work so he makes sure everything is ok and I am doing the right thing.
July 14, 2011 3:43 am at 3:43 am #995618ursula momishMemberlb72–I hope that doesn’t refer to how much you weigh now, or that stuff works too well!
July 14, 2011 6:20 am at 6:20 am #995619Midwest2ParticipantOne factor which has been shown in studies to help keep you fat is sleep deprivation. If you’re not getting enough sleep it will mess up your matabolism and lead to weight gain. So – figure out how to get your 8 hours of zzzz’s every night regardless of what your friends do.
Stress is another biggie. If you’ve got a lot of stress see a life coach or somebody similar to help deal with it. Don’t do counseling unless you really need it for emotional issues. Be practical about the problem rather than getting over-involved. Remember, your neshamah doesn’t have a weight – it doesn’t need it.
July 14, 2011 2:16 pm at 2:16 pm #995620always hereParticipantlb72~ you can still get phentermine?! it’s still on the market?!
I took phen-fen in the late ’90’s. then there was a Class Action Suit! I got in on it because of heart valve damage & received a LARGE settlement. (B’H, my valves seem fine now.)
July 14, 2011 3:39 pm at 3:39 pm #995621basket of radishesParticipantI wouldnt trust ANY drug that is not prescribed by your Physician for any condition such as “weight loss”. I am a physician and know no treatments that are orthodox for this other than true medical advice, diet, exercise and in extreme cases, surgery.
July 14, 2011 6:08 pm at 6:08 pm #995622ilovetheholylandParticipantthere is a dr. in manhattan by the name of dr. luis j arrone. he is a metabolic endocrinolgist, and deals with a diet plan along with meds to help with weight loss. he is tops in his field and may be hard getting an appointment with, and hes also extremely expensive, but im telling you, ITS WORTH IT!
July 15, 2011 1:39 am at 1:39 am #995623happiestMemberI am definitely not overweight enough for surgery. I weight in the low hundreds but since I am built very small this is considered over weight for me. I know why I have gained weight, it is because I was on psych meds which made me gain a ton of weight. I’ve tried diets and exercise and feel like I’m at my wits end.
I’m going to do research into that Dr in Manhattan. I hope something pans out!!
Thanks for the ideas everyone!!
July 15, 2011 4:20 am at 4:20 am #995624Altz is GitParticipantDiet pill scare me, frankly and are NOT the way to lose weight. they are invasive, potentially harmful, and just a big risk when you take them. you will definatly lose weight if you burn more calories than you eat, thats the rule of thumb for weight loss, which you probably know. sometimes the easy way out is just not the right one. these meds may also damage your metabolism (like yo-yo dieting) from losing muscle instead of fat because of a too-low calorie intake. i hope this gave some insight but please consult a doctor/nutritionist!
July 15, 2011 3:01 pm at 3:01 pm #995625HealthParticipanthappiest – “I am definitely not overweight enough for surgery.”
You probably can get the gastric band though. If you live in Brooklyn, MMC has such a program.
January 18, 2012 4:30 pm at 4:30 pm #995626dietinginlakewoodMemberI have taken an herbal weight loss pill two times a day and have seen successful weight loss. I am interested to know if anyone elso has taken this from a man in brooklyn sold for about $250 a bottle. no side affects and i am down 60 lbs in 5 months. this is with a daily exercise routine and healthy eating as well but it definitely did the job more than just dieting the regular way.
January 18, 2012 5:52 pm at 5:52 pm #995627feivelParticipanti am down 60 lbs
actually its 62 pounds.
January 18, 2012 6:02 pm at 6:02 pm #995628popa_bar_abbaParticipantI have taken a poison pill two times a day and have seen successful weight loss. I am interested to know if anyone elso has taken this from an illegal drug dealer in brooklyn sold for about $250 a bottle plus a slight chance of prison. no side affects which I know about yet, other than abnormal loss of a third of my body weight and i am down 60 lbs in 5 months. this is with a daily exercise routine and healthy eating as well but it definitely will kill me faster than just dieting the regular way.
I corrected that for you.

60 pounds in 5 months is actually not that unhealthy or uncommon for someone who is very overweight (The first 20-30 pounds fly off) who starts dieting and exercising. These pills may have helped to some extent but I think such results are possible without them.
January 19, 2012 1:25 am at 1:25 am #995630amichaiParticipantmaybe meds do help with certain weight loss, but I think its healthier to do, diet, excercise, vitamins. a blood test will tell you how your thyroid is working.
December 25, 2013 6:32 pm at 6:32 pm #995632dietinginlakewoodMemberHi, I am the original post for the diet pills from Brazil. for all of you out there who have never had to deal with weight loss, you will never understand. some weight gain is caused by depression and emptiness which cause emotional eating. although the pills are not great, it does help with the depression, and self esteem. I am still interested in some form of medication that would assist me in controlling my appretite.
December 25, 2013 9:02 pm at 9:02 pm #995633🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantdietinginlakewood- If you’re suffering from weight gain as a result of depression, you can see a psychiatrist who can properly diagnose you. It’s much better to be on normal prescription antidepressants than on any crazy illegal drugs. Marijuana might be a good painkiller, but it’s better to take morphine which is legal.
