I recognize the fact that by definition, each generation can ony have a couple of poskei hador. These Torah Giants are faced with the toughest and most complex contemporary shailos. However, I think we now live in a time where we are lacking the more ‘day to day’ type poskim. What I mean by this is that so many shul rabbis and roshei yeshiva (the steps below the Poskei Hador)do not feel comfortable taking a position on already paskened matters and merely lay out the various opinions and often encourage the machmir route due to the spectrum of shittos.
I’m not saying that every rav should paskan l’kulah all the time! What I am saying is that there is a greater need for rabbonim to go through the sugya and make an assesment based on svarah and mesorah to decide what the halacha is on a case to case basis.
