This is not a good thing. Research the situation and this “doctor”.
Also, getting 100,000 signatures was meaningless. All it mandates is that the White House release a statement. The President will say that it’s up to the FDA. The FDA will say, as it has been rightfully saying all along, “no”.
December 26, 2013 3:33 am at 3:33 am #995711truthsharerMemberAll this proves is that frum people are sheeple.
December 26, 2013 4:24 am at 4:24 am #995712nishtdayngesheftParticipantTS,
Actually, it is your comment that is indicative about your own sorry state.
It is sad to see someone so alone. Nebach on you.
December 26, 2013 4:42 am at 4:42 am #995713☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI signed the petition.
I know there have been accusations against the clinic. There are also those who defend it. I have no idea who’s right.
We are talking about the only remaining hope for this very sick little boy. It is not my business to budget for the FDA, but kol Yisroel areivin zeh lozeh, so it is my business to do whatever tiny amount of hishtadlus I can if it will offer even a slight chance for this boy to recover, be”H.
No, this doesn’t prove that frum people are sheeple. What it does prove once again is that Yidden are rachmonim b’nei rachmonim.
December 26, 2013 4:55 am at 4:55 am #995714Sam2ParticipantDY: If it was even a tiny hope, I would agree with you. But it’s no hope at all and several indications are that it is killing these people faster. The treatment is a scam and people who signed enabled this swindler to take advantage of a poor and despairing family–and to give him dozens of thousands of dollars to do it to boot. I wish there was something we could do. But this wasn’t an option. All that is left is Davening.
December 26, 2013 5:03 am at 5:03 am #995715truthsharerMemberHow does this help? All this is doing is giving false hope, which may be a good thing but it’s still won’t accomplish anything. The treatment is a bad treatment. The doctor is famous for preying on people who have nothing else going for them. I don’t know how that is indicative of my sorry state. DY, this is not the only remaining hope left for the child. Send the kid to Disney or to Israel or to wherever he wants or something, and say tehillim but we shouldn’t be sending our most vulnerable to quack doctors who are serious frauds. It would be one thing if it was a placebo but worst case scenario the treatment is an extremely painful treatment and causes an extremely painful death.
December 26, 2013 5:47 am at 5:47 am #995716MammeleParticipantTS: Do you really think that all the 100,000+ that signed are frum?
I signed it as well, but I believe this whole White House petition site is just an old Obama campaign gimmick. Is anybody aware of any petition on which the White House actually acted, not just shifted the responsibility/blame?
I signed it because if CH”V our roles were reversed, rationally or not I’d want others to do the same for me.
December 26, 2013 6:01 am at 6:01 am #995717☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam and truthsharer, thank you for your responses.
I’m not sure how you know more than anyone else who can Google, but as I mentioned, the results were mixed.
Aside from the article on YWN, I also received a couple of emails from reputable mosdos encouraging me to sign. I find it highly unlikely that there is not even a slight chance of hope with this treatment, and the potential upside is greater than the downside.
December 26, 2013 6:47 am at 6:47 am #995718Sam2ParticipantDY: The USA Today spent the past few months detailing this guy’s sordid and evil history. I don’t advise reading it unless you have a strong stomach. But he is using this poor family as a pawn to make himself look good in the public eye and make the FDA look like Big Brother who doesn’t care if kids die. Perpetuating that idea is dangerous to the public at large.
Mammele: I have thought of that. Here is my perspective. Of course the family wants it signed. Of course they want the treatment. Anyone in a hopeless situation will grab for whatever any smooth-talking charlatan tries to tell them. It’s human nature. However, we, as this family’s nation, are disconnected enough from the direct pain to be able to be objective. And we, because we love this family, have to be able to step up in defense of this family–by protecting them from the vile quack who is preying on them.
December 26, 2013 6:59 am at 6:59 am #995719☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThere are articles out there blasting the USA Today for that.
Yes, I tend to believe the USA Today more, but there’s still a chance it works.
December 26, 2013 2:29 pm at 2:29 pm #995721🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantSam2 – first you said the signatures were meaningless, then you said they are responsible for giving the guy tons of money. And furthermore, do you really think that this guy has the power to give or take a life? Do you really think that if Hashem wants this boy to live be”H, that decision will be affected by choosing this, or any other doctor? Do you really think that Hashem is waiting for that last signature to decide whether or not this beautiful child will recieve the refuah he needs? I am surprised and disappointed in you. So not like your usual posts . . .
December 26, 2013 2:47 pm at 2:47 pm #995722oomisParticipantWhatever the situation is or is not, may this child have a refuah shelaima b’soch sh’or cholei Yisroel. Let’s not quibble, but better, use the time more productively to daven for someone else’s child, who needs a refuah and yeshua b’korov.
Even if the biggest rasha were to be the vehicle through which Hashem decides to help someone (meaning, that because of this doctor, people’s awareness of the situation is greatly raised and perhaps another doctor then could step in, or something like that), then it is worth it. In any case, I am sure the RBSH”O will make His cheshbonos about the doctor. I hope this little boy’s life is spared. I cannot imagine the pain his family is going through, and we have something similar going on with people very close to me now, so I am wholly empathetic to the need to find refuos out of the thin air. Please, let’s not argue about this amongst ourselves. Our opinions are not the important issue right now.
December 26, 2013 3:01 pm at 3:01 pm #995723Sam2ParticipantSyag: We believe that HKBH uses doctors to help heal people, not quacks with insane theories that prey on grieving and helpless people. If that were true, everyone should “invent” their own cure for cancer because maybe HKBH will use us as the instrument to cure cancer. HKBH uses real doctors that practice real medicine.
And it’s meaningless in regards to getting the boy the treatment. It has other consequences though, and not positive.

I personally would never claim to have a clue who and what Hashem uses. but either way, I agree with oomis and this is not the time for this. Not at all.
