isn’t there a difference between different “out-of-town”s? including size – “small “out-of-town”” vs. “larger “out-of-town””?

Hey stop bashing out of town. thats exactly what i was saying before that there are out of town communities that are not tiny hicktowns and have nice properties, regular stores and things to do. really cherrybim, do you think that ny is the only place to live?? there are another 49 states in this country and 5 other (livable) continents…ever gave that some thought? i guess the narrowmindedness (if thats a word) of ny has rubbed off on you… btw there are plusses to living in town, i know all about them – i go to school in ny.

What’s the difference between Toronto, Chicago, LA, and Detroit? No bashing, please! Just curious.

Well, in LA there are lots of rich people 😉

Seriously, some are more ‘out of townish’ than others.

cherry, nice try. Not sure where exactly in Brooklyn you lived but in plenty of places, like you say, you can’t blow your nose without everyone knowing about it. It could depend on the block or neighborhood in general.

anonymisss: this isn’t exactly confirmed research or anything, but i’ve met people from different places, and in general, different communities seem to have different attitudes (i’m not using that in a particularly bad or good way) and focus on different things.

I think they’re “in town” just not as “in town” as brooklyn. On Shabbos, people get less “dressed up” than they would in brooklyn. I think they’re just much more laid back about everything. I was in Toronto (only) and thats the opinion I got.

The truth is that you should be the best Jew that you can be, both “in town” and out-of-town”.

And if you’re not going to be dressed in your best on Shabbos, then when? Shabbos is the time for wearing your best, at least according to the Shulchan Aruch.

And actually, my intention was not to bash out-of town, but just to show that people are people everywhere (see my earlier post).

There are mailos and chesronos in every community. There are many places in Brooklyn that are rural: trees, grass, large homes, no traffic or noise. And yes, you also have crowded housing.

I am very familiar with the communities outside of New York as I’ve been to many of them. But you have more top notch Rabbonim per square inch in New York than anywhere else. And the proof is that anytime there’s an opening for a position, the Rabbonim come running from “out-of-town” to apply.

I don’t mean to stereotype or negate any person or community. Are some more “out of town” than others?

I am interested in getting personal information about the community. Could someone please give me some advice on how to get that.
