Does anyone here actually own one of these things? I’m not referring to the prestacked units or the matching stackable ones. I am referring to the ventless all in 1 machines. Our new apartment has a washer hookup but no 220 volt line to install a dryer. Apparently the previous tenants would hang dry everything but with 2 babies I really need to have access to clean dry clothes and sheets at any given time. I have read a ton of reviews and they seem to be as good as they are bad and honestly don’t know what to believe. Can anyone please tell me their experience with one of these machines besides the fact they take a long time to dry? The only company that I’ve heard of that makes them is LG but its very expensive. There are other ones on Amazon that are much cheaper but Ive never of those brands and would prefer to buy from a reputable store with service contracts. Our only other option is to get a really small dryer that uses 120v and vent it out the window but based on the size you have to run multiple cycles in order to be able to dry all your clothes which doesn’t excite me either. In the end I would hope to sell it whenever we leave but I really need an honest review from your experience and if you feel it was worth investing in. Thanks!

It did require a 220V outlet which we paid to have installed. At that time, the buzz was that a 120V unit would take much longer to dry than a 220V one; I don’t know if things have changed.

The way I expedite the drying is by using a fan. It takes a fraction of the time. Wash in the evening, hang up with a fan blowing, and it’s dries overnight.
December 19, 2014 8:02 pm at 8:02 pm #1049414mercuryMemberwe had 2 different electricians come take a look and to install a 220 line would be complicated and pricey for this apartment so I dont think we are going to do that because we dont want to put so much money into a place we dont own. this machine is only 1 machine that both washes and dries without needing a vent or a 220v line. they take a very long time to dry but at the same theres no need to wait around to transfer your clothes bc when the wash is finished it goes straight to the dry cycle. apparently they are more common in Europe. like the title, they are called washer dryer combos.
December 22, 2014 2:49 pm at 2:49 pm #1049415mercuryMemberhi still could use some info or advice on this!! no one here owns one of these? specifically the LG WM3477 or WM3997 series?
December 22, 2014 3:02 pm at 3:02 pm #1049416☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHow much would installing a 220 line cost? What is the difference in price between the combo unit and regular units?
As far as how well they work, I would call Towne Appliance in Lakewood and ask. I would expect that they’ll tell you they’re not great. At least one seller’s website has a disclaimer:
“*** Washer and Dryer combos will never dry your clothes at 100%. ***”
You can ask them for the price differential on the different units as well, and figure out if the higher cost of installibg a 220 line is worth the convenience.
If you haven’t, you should also ask your landlord if he would partially pay for the line, since it does improve his apartment for future tenants.
Also, have you looked into installing a natural gas line?
December 22, 2014 4:03 pm at 4:03 pm #1049417Chochom-ibberParticipantI had one of those ridiculous washer/dryer combos. I don’t remember which company produced it but I do know that it took from Channuka to Purim to one one load.
December 22, 2014 4:43 pm at 4:43 pm #1049418mercuryMemberI already purchased 2 separate units which has been sitting at Lowe’s for the past 3 weeks. We didnt realize it would be that costly to add the line. (we paid 1500 with service contract for the LG 3050 series which has excellent reviews) So we have about a week left to return it if we decide not to do the work. we dont have gas. everything is electric. landlord does not want to help us pay for it. a rough estimate was between 6 and 800 given the amount of work involved and both electricians said its alot of work. and thats on top of the money we used to purchase the machines. I dont know how long we will be living here thats the thing. Ive done a ton of research and i know they dont work 100% but is it beter then not having anything? Or better then putting so much money to do the electrical work ourselves? I just know these combos are very expensive to purchase new but in then we dont have to put the money down to add the line and then I can just sell it. I’m worried if there that bad would the next tenants buy it from us? I I am a little hesitant to buy them used because if something breaks I would not have a service contract to pay for the repairs. Half the people write on their reviews that they dry fine if you put it on the proper setting and the other half say they dont dry at all. I am so confused about what to do!

December 22, 2014 6:08 pm at 6:08 pm #1049420☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantMy advice: put in the 220 line. I believe the seller who says they don’t dry well. (but call Towne Appliance to confirm; I’ve found them to be knowledgeable, honest, and helpful. Also well priced – you might want to cancel Lowe’s and buy from them.)
You will end up selling them at a big loss, but if you take the 3050, you will take it with you (unless your new place has gas).

Unless the tenant is paying for utilities, the landlord wouldn’t want the line. Whether it’s even permitted would depend on the lease agreement.
December 23, 2014 5:07 pm at 5:07 pm #1049422PosterMemberWasher dryer combo is a very popular appliance. The LG is the best one around. It is available in 24 and 27 inch.
The one thing to know is that drying time takes long.
If you are ok with doing only one or two loads a day then start the load in the morning and let the machine run.
These are definitely, very popular for pple that live in small apartments.
