Just send them an SMS message… let’s see them ignore that!
February 14, 2013 1:18 am at 1:18 am #993769🐵 ⌨ GamanitParticipantI actually worked out a really relaxed way to wake the kids up. About ten minutes before they’re supposed to wake up I adjust the thermostat to be 74 degrees- up from 68 for sleeping. Then when they’re supposed to wake up I say their name quietly into their ear- I don’t whisper, just talk quietly. Their eyes open up at the sound of their name, then I just have to make sure they stay up…

goldersgreener: Must have been after my time because I don’t remember a Rabbi C. Mr Madden, the gentile sports teacher in the 80s was a strange one, so that sounds possible. I think much got exaggerated.

Chicken pulka, ??? ????? ?? ?????? ?? ???? these stories are true, i was in PH those years.
Maddern was quite strict about it, although remember the school had an indoor gymnasiym.
Of course you don’t remeber rabbi C. because he spells his name with a k. Rabbi K. wasn’t so consistent, he didn’t always watch out for boys coming late etc.. But if he caught you, you lost your shoes for a whole school day – and you had to leave the buiding during recess etc.. It wasn’t fun.
??? ?? ???
Your moshol is unfair. you are talking about an erlicher yid trying to be ???? children, and even if you do not agree to his methods …

May 27, 2013 11:00 pm at 11:00 pm #993774ZushyParticipantBy the way, GG, i don’t remember being DESPERATE to come to school on time. It wasn’t fun, but i think we just coped. I don’t remember it being such a massive issue
May 28, 2013 9:04 pm at 9:04 pm #993775ZushyParticipantBy the way GG, do you remember that for a couple of weeks every year they used the gymnasium for GCSE – public exams, and we used to sports on the stage in the school hall? They had proper carpet there and there was no climbing equipment, and we used deliberately turn up without our sneakers and enjoy ourselves in our socks.

May 29, 2013 9:55 pm at 9:55 pm #993777Smile E. FaceMemberZushy-you’re bumping threads but threads generally fall off the page because people ran out of things to say on that topic… once they’ve responded and said their piece, they’re done…don’t take it personally. maybe try responding to things that are ongoing, like the humor or forwards threads, things like that..
and
WELCOME!!! try not to get stuck here 🙂

May 31, 2013 1:55 am at 1:55 am #993779nem621Participantsome people mentioned waking up to music as it is more pleasent mishna brura/ shluchan aruch hold that this is assur as long as we don’t have a beit HaMikdash since it is TOO much happiness (hichos tisha be av don’t rimember what siman)
May 31, 2013 5:33 am at 5:33 am #993780Sam2Participantnem: 560:3. And it’s Assur even without that according to the Shulchan Aruch. The Rama mentioned the waking up/going to sleep part but presumably if you hold by that then the reason for that Chumra doesn’t apply anymore (see my posts to rob in the music during S’fira thread; it’s the same reason).
May 31, 2013 5:57 am at 5:57 am #993781KeenanpMemberI usually throw the cat on my sister. Started young, it’s pretty much tradition now. Cat seems non-phased.

Much like Schrodinger’s cat then…

December 15, 2013 2:00 pm at 2:00 pm #993785feterleibelMemberZushy and chicken pulka – they did it to me too, and i hated it.
If i knew it was happening – i was running late to school, or had done something the day before and told to come to the rpincipals office the next morning etc… i would ocme with an extra pair of socks, although it ws still very embarrasing.
December 15, 2013 2:02 pm at 2:02 pm #993786feterleibelMemberPopa, i think your moshol to cutting off hands is entirely unfair.
The rabbi invlved was a well meaning – if somewhat misguided – ba’al teshuva
