Can anyone offer suggestions of places to go on vacation that would not break the bank?
We’re looking into Disney or other places appropriate for younger children, but don’t want to spend $300/day on accommodations.
Where have you gone with your family (and liked)?
If you don’t stay at one of the Disney hotels the accommodations shouldn’t be too expensive. Look online for hotels/motels in Kissamee, Florida which is much cheaper and is close to all the Orlando attractions. (If you don’t want to rent a car, most of these hotels / motels have free shuttle services to the parks)
The theme parks are very expensive, but there are ways to find cheaper tickets as well.
1) Look on Ebay- People buy multiple day passes and do not end up using all of the days, so they try to sell the remaining days on ebay.
2) Some of the area hotels / motels sell discount tickets
3) a lot of the gift shops (the really cheap 5 t-shirts for $10 type) also have tickets that people sold to them for resale (see #1 ebay)
I stayed at a beautiful, spacious 3 bdrm house last winter for about $100 a night. It even had a private pool in the backyard. 5 minute ride to the parks.

No you do not need to stay in one of the Disney resorts to get the packaged meals. I stayed in the Double Tree which is a few miles away, and still got semi-delicious wrapped prepared foods. The Double Tree is pretty well priced depending on when you are going, but Magic Kingdom is around 50 $ a person or it was the last time i went which was only 3 years ago.
smart, I had my family including four kids as well as in laws at a spacious townhouse with four bedrooms. also a private pool in the back but it was tiny. 10 days was abt $1000. less than a 10 minute drive from the gates back in 07. google windsor hills
Backpacking. There is a one time investment for gear, but after that it is pretty much free.
Kids don’t need Disney, they can have a much better time spending time with nature and their parents.
