I seem to remember hearing (on a shiur) that the word “PACHIM” (sometimes translated as heat / heatstroke, etc – actually derives from the word neficha– breathing – as VAYIPACH bi-apov nishmas chayim– “Ha-shem BREATHED into Adams nostrils a neshomoh of life". Should this affect our attitude towards Corona? Does this make it inapropriate to take the attitude of "Its all in Hashems hands, so why wear a mask?, if Hashem wills Ill get Corona, and if He doesnt I wont”? Maybe there is specific cause for vigilance when it comes to breathing in germs, as it may fall under “Tzinim-PACHIM”? Please inform
It says, a person should pray not to get sick. Once a person gets sick ch’v, he needs special protection, zechusim to get cured. Besides prayer, we must do everything possible like wearing masks, washing hands and social distancing to protect ourselves from the coronavirus and then Hashem will help us. It is a mitzva of ushmartem meod lenafshosechem to protect ourselves from getting sick. If a person endangers himself, he will not be helped.
Avrahammerstein – IDK where you got that Pshat From.
But there is a Machlokes – Rashi & Tosfos.
One says it means you can make yourself warm or cold. I.E. – Put on a coat or blanket.
The other says if you expose yourself to s/o who has a cold or something that causes a fever, you can get it w/o Hashem’s decree.
