From Arutz Sheva:
Haaretz writer refuses to apologize for libelous article
Yossi Klein, who wrote that Religious Zionist Jews are more dangerous than Hezbollah terrorists stands by article.Haaretz columnist Yossi Klein (not to be confused with author Yossi Klein Halevy) has refused to apologize for claims made in a highly controversial piece published Wednesday evening.
In the article entitled “More dangerous than Hezbollah”, Klein slammed the Religious Zionist sector, claiming they are more of a threat than murderous Arab terrorists or the Hezbollah terror movement in Lebanon, which has killed hundreds of Jews worldwide since the 1980s.
“The national religious [public] is dangerous, more dangerous than Hezbollah, more than drivers ramming their cars into people, or girls with scissors. The Arabs can be killed, they cannot.
“What do they want? To take control of the state and cleanse it of Arabs. If asked, they will deny it … They know that it is too early to be so obvious. Do not believe their denials. Their religious nationalism is extreme nationalism, enveloped in a pious reverence. It permeates the education system, is getting stronger in the army and affects the Supreme Court. They are already on their way to us, another moment and they break down the door.
“I have more in common with the Eskimo of Alaska than with all the [national-religious leaders] and everything they represent. What do I have to do with Smotrich? What have I got to do with Israel Harel? What do I have to do with those who want to achieve freedom for themselves at the expense of someone else’s freedom? He did not mean us, but we are the ones who will have to get used to it,” adds Klein.
Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Education Minister Naftali Bennett (Jewish Home) blasted Klein and Haaretz over the article.
“The article in Haaretz is disgraceful, and they have lost it completely: The national religious public is the salt of the earth, its sons and daughters serve in the IDF and the National Service for the State of Israel and for Israel’s security. I am proud of them like most of the citizens of the country,” Netanyahu wrote. “Haaretz should apologize.”
But on Thursday, Klein doubled down on his claims during an interview with Army Radio.
“I didn’t make an inappropriate generalization; I just gave my opinion on Religious Zionism.”
“I gave my opinion and I stand by it.”
April 13, 2017 1:05 pm at 1:05 pm #1253952JosephParticipantWhy would you expect more from an anti-semitic rag like Haaretz?
April 13, 2017 1:39 pm at 1:39 pm #1253970ChortkovParticipantMe thinks that attempting #CRDSYAC here would get my SN blocked and this thread shut down.
Correct. I’ve already got my sights on it even without you doing that…
April 13, 2017 3:34 pm at 3:34 pm #1254016ChortkovParticipantIs anyone going to quote the Nefesh Hachaim at the beginning of Shaar Aleph?
Although, of course, that’s not what The Honourable Mr Klein was referring to.
April 14, 2017 7:49 am at 7:49 am #1254179HaLeiViParticipantPretty cheap. It has all the hallmarks of immature writing. This small threat is actually greater than the actual famous one; but don’t ask them, because they’ll deny it, but take my word for it.
Why would any publication want to have such an article about anyone?
April 16, 2017 7:57 am at 7:57 am #1254492SadigurarebbeParticipantWhat does he think of us non zionist and anti zionist yidden?
Regarding “Turns out we’re all terrorists” I am under the impression that the majority of frum yidden in America are not Dati leumi or Modox, so they are not the subject of this article. So who is this we in the title here?
Has anyone taken a poll of the CR’s makeup?
Additionally I was also shocked to see such a disgusting piece published by TOI, recently, bashing Chabad, it was thankfully pulled from their site. It was entitled the Lubavitcher rebbe’s dark side.
Nevertheless it does show how the seculars are getting worried about their own dwindling numbers and declining hold on EY hakedosha, that they feel desperate enough to publish such smut.
April 16, 2017 7:58 am at 7:58 am #1254493Avi KParticipantYekke, I looked up the “Nefesh HaChaim” and I have no idea what you mean. In any case, Klein overlooked the fact that Israel Harel is a columnist for HaAretz so I guess that we are also taking over that venue. There is a joke about a Jew who sees a friend of his reading an anti-Semitic newspaper. When he asks about it his friend says “I used to read a Jewish newspaper but it made me very depressed. Neo-Nazis, skinheads, terrorists, Iran. Now that I read this wonderful newspaper I see that we own all of the banks. We control the Congress. WE RULE THE WORLD”.
April 16, 2017 10:14 am at 10:14 am #1254522ChortkovParticipantThe Nefesh Hachaim writes that a Jew doing an Aveirah causes much more damage than Pharoah, Haman Nevuchadnetzar and Titus etc. They can only affect this world, whereas the action of a Yid has the power to affect other (much more important) worlds. So, in a manner of speaking, we are more dangerous than Hizbullah.
April 16, 2017 1:41 pm at 1:41 pm #1254587mw13ParticipantSadigurarebbe, while it’s true that this particular Haaetz hit peice was only directed at the DL community, I have little doubt that they have nothing nice to say about the Chareidim either.
Joseph:
Why would you expect more from an anti-semitic rag like Haaretz?Truth is, I don’t. But I did expect better from the CR. And yet in a recent thread, several people here seemed to have no problem hurling these kind of ridiculous and reprensible insults at other frum Jews that they happen to dislike.
As many here may have figured, that was the real point of this thread – to show how utterly absurd and awful it is to use this kind of langauge to smear people you don’t like. I was hoping that seeing the same type of comments in a different scenario might drive the point home. (People have a tendencey to only notice how offensive and objectionable insults are when they’re directed at somebody that they feel some kind of kinship with…)
April 16, 2017 3:27 pm at 3:27 pm #1254733kj chusidParticipantHe’s right, Hezbollah uses terrorism to fight the theft of Arab lands, Occupation etc but Zionism, in all its forms, represents heresy at the worst level
April 18, 2017 9:29 pm at 9:29 pm #1254791Lilmod UlelamaidParticipantMw13 – +1 There was at least one comment that was far worse than this, and much more dangerous.
Yekke2 – +1.
April 20, 2017 1:43 pm at 1:43 pm #1258270HaLeiViParticipantNot only these Zionist. We have to shelter our children from the Karoim, fight the Baisusim, banish the Kutim, leave Alexandria, ignore the priests’ lecture in Shul on Shabbos. Maybe we should even add a new Bracha in the Tfillas Amida because of all these Minim!
