Trump admitted yesterday in a speech in Oshkosh Wisconsin that he moved the embassy to Jerusalem for the evangelicals and that they are more excited about it than the Jews.

His moving the embassy and his relationship with Israel is more complex than him simply being an Ohav Yisroel par excellence.

But not to worry…..the real evangelicals believe that for their “moishiach” to come, there needs to be some type of all-out war/Armageddon between Israel and its enemies so moving the Embassy, annexing land, and making any kind of solution with the Palestinians an impossibility is all part their master plan for a goiyeshe olam habah where yidden are cannon fodder for their desired outcome. When they say we are the “chosen people”, stop and inquire, “chosen” for what???

He has to get their vote. Even if that’s true it’s something Jews support and Dems never did it.

    Dear One,

Only one Democrat in the senator (Robert Byrd WV) voted against the ’95 embassy act.And thirty two Democrats co sponsered it. (Including oneBiden, Joseph R., Jr. DE) And the resolution that commemorates the 50th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem was unanimous. Ever heard of Joe Lieberman?

Actually, those are codewords for the ongoing battle at 770 Eastern Parkway between the traditional Chabad leadership and a bunch of young zealots who are trying to impose their radical view of the Rebbe as moishiach

    Dear Coffee,

Clinton said he supported it in principal. Bush was into it. Obama said something like, Jerusalem is the capitol of Israel. The Democrats supported it as much as the Republicans.

Obama believed in the pre-67 borders so he and the educated elites don’t consider Jerusalem to be the capitol.

It helped Trump with several groups, including Evangelicals. It also reassured Israel that the US won’t demand a withdrawal to the 1947 partition boundaries (under which Jerusalem wouldn’t be part of Israel). In addition to Christians, much of Trump’s base sees the Palestinians as supporters of Islamic terrorism and the embassy move was a slap in the Palestinians’ face. As most Jews live in solid blue states, Jewish influence on American politics is minimal, so the decision to move the embassy wasn’t motivated by a desire to get Jewish votes.

Given that he didn’t disown his daughter for converting, I would say he is definitely a friend. Most Democrats believe in “freedom from religion” as a public policy goal.

Trumps moving the embassy for the evangelicals means that he did not do it exclusively because he loves the Jewish people. He never would have been able to do it without the bi-partisan support and resolution that had previously been expressed for it by Democrats and Republicans. He does not get total credit for doing something that was based on previous governments.

There were many reasons that the previous governments didn’t actually move the embassy. None of the reasons is because they were anti-semites. Most of them are because of the Arab/Palestinian situation cannot be ignored.
Talk about ‘kicking the can down the road’, that is exactly what Trump did.
He worsened the Arab/Palestinian situation and Israel (and America) needs to deal with it. They are currently dealing with the worsening situation. There is no Trump/Jared peace plan.

Not everything that is supposedly a benefit for Israel is actually beneficial. A prime example of this is the Gaza withdrawal. Everything has 2 sides that must be weighed. The Oslo accords and the Peace Treaty with Egypt are further examples. Time will tell. 2 years is too short.

Trump moved the embassy for the evangelicals , but the evangelicals don’t have much to show for their support of Trump. Some probably died due to Covid-19.The SCOTUS continues to rule against their values.
Trump loves dictators and communists that have destroyed christianity in their countries.

Even the move of the embassy is reversible. It’s just a building. Peace and Life are more important.

It is the CapitAl of Israel.
The CapitOl is a building in Washington DC that houses the Senate and House of Representatives.

BTW….Trump has released loads of criminals from Jail, both Jewish and non-Jews. This is not something I praise.

    Dear One,

Obama publicly sated that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. The only part he pressured for was the settlement freezes. Obama put less pressure on Israel than any other president.

[It does not translate specifically into loving Jews, there was a lot more going on in the world.]

Obama has a spotless record, with zero antisemitism. Hate, just wasn’t his thing. In general, he was a passive guy. Maybe if he had more of a spine, he could have done something good for the country.

You are terribly ignorant of all the other gratuitously protective and pro Jewish moves that Trump has done. For example, forcing schools that get Federal funding not to discriminate against Jews. That has nothing to do with the Southern Baptists. You need to let go of the Democrat Party. It’s affecting your brain.

    Dear Reb Eliezer,
Voltaire was saying that even an atheist would have to admit that it is easier to rationalize that there is a god, even if it is true that there is no God.

The constitution requires at least some internal reckoning on the part of the individual. Same as any moral contract. The part of civilization that encourages us toward a self reckoning we call religion. Where has all the religious leadership gone? In the Sixties, the civil rights leaders were mostly ministers. Clergy had a tremendous impact on american culture. To the extent that the man on the streets political involvement was at the behest of his religious leadership. There is none of that now. So, thinking Americans self reckon about the constitution in accordance with the extant of their education. Which is another topic….

Bottom line. If the religious have problems with American culture today, it because Americans had problems with the religious activities of yesterday.

Even his father donated a property he had in queens for a shul because they had no money for one and he said no problem. So quite. And I’m sure If anyone needs money you can ask him and he’ll give you gladly like lots of people including myself that would give

If this was written in coherent English I might craft a proper reply………………………………
BUT, I’ll attempt to understand your gibberish

I support Criminal Justice Reform for ALL people, not just Blacks. I don’t believe in mandated minimum sentences, or three strike rules.

I have no idea what a ‘case threat is’ and who got too harsh of a sentence.

BTW>>>>I also would not restore Voting Rights to convicted felons, or allow those in prison serving time for felonies to vote.

I don’t believe that the sole purpose of prison is to re-educate and make the prisoner ready to re-enter society. I believe a prison sentence should be punishment for having committed a crime.

    Dear Fein,
Not sure who you are calling ignorant. Trump’s executive order is a reiteration of 2010 guidance issued by the Obama administration aimed at providing a more expansive definition of antisemitism. Our constitutional rights were first recognized long before Trump came to office.

You are an ignorant fool, who prints lies wiht no basis in truth.

I am a lifelong Democrat, a Baal Tzedaka. I have never given charity toi support whales or abortion, neither have many Democrats I know.
Besides Jewish organizations, I donate to our local Volunteer Fire Company, EMS, Food Pantry, Senior Services, College Scholarships for the poor, The local Catholic Hospital that saved Mrs, CTL’s life and where some of our grandchildren were born.

If you were to take a poll of the 70 some odd members of my Democratic Town Committee, you would be hard pressed to find more than a dozen who have ever given a nickel to support abortion. The vast majority are Catholics whom oppose abortion, but don’t believe their religious beliefs should be civil law.
Remember the First National Fundraiser for Planned Parenthood was Prescott Bush, father of President George HW Bush, Grandfather of President George W Bush, and US Republican Sentator from CT

It;s important to point out mistakes. There is a huge difference between a Building in Washington DC and the seat of government of a country…much more than the choice of a vowel. The rest of his statement was incoherent.

While we are talking about Accuracy…DJ Trump was a Democrat for years. He may have run on the R ticket, but most don;t view him as a Republican, but an opportunist

The Republican Party has changed greatly in my adult lifetime. Gone are the northeast liberal wing (Rockefeller, Keating, Lindsay, Weicker, etc). It was hijacked to the right by the evangelicals (Moral Majority) and the gun toting white supremacists. Today they leave no room in the party for differing viewpoints.
I sit on a Democratic Town Committee, which doesn’t lean to the left. Most don;t support, women’s abortion rights, school vouchers, forcing low income housing into the suburbs, affirmative action. 100% support a national health plan, social security, medicare, medicaid, SNAP, WIC, DACA.

Many people did not come through Ellis Island. My family arrived before that existed.
Foreign ships came to Boston, New Haven-and other ports. Sailors jumped ship or overstayed leave and melded into the population. They didn’t bother becoming citizen, they married a citizen and kids born here were citizens. Prior to 1980 it was easy to get a SS card. You could look at death notices in the newspaper archives and pick a baby or toddler of your sex who died. File for a SS card just by getting a birth certificate at town hall for 59 cents, didn’t have to show IF, get card, assume identity, use C and SS card to get license and even a passport.
