Do they actually prevent accidents or do they perhaps contribute to them.
Obviously, they are necessary at busy intersections. However, lights at every single corner are the reason people rush and zoom. Most big smashups that I’ve known about happen right after yellow.
Perhaps we should petition to get rid of the traffic lights that are not necessary, in order to make our streets safer!
1st things 1st:- When will bicyclists commence to abide by traffic rules? & when shall the police commence to enforce traffic rules for bicyclists? When shall bicyclists cease to run red lights? & when shall bicyclists cease to go wrong direction on a 1 way street?
From years of crossing roads, I have learned 3 things before ever crossing a road:- 1) check for bicycles even when “Walk sign” is on; 2) check for emergency vehicles even when “Walk sign” is on; 3) Always check the opposite direction, even on a 1 way street.
And before openning your car door make sure there is no bike en route to your door.
A bike travelling alongside your car is also a very big nusance. It’s very hard to keep track of its position and it floats in and out of visible range. If you try to turn you have to count up the bikes to make sure they aren’t landing in your path.
