On Main Street in Queens there is a conservative synagogue that proudly is displaying a huge banner that reads “Celebrating 70 years of traditional conservative judaism”. That’s such a stira. And it’s a disgrace.
October 23, 2011 3:45 pm at 3:45 pm #819453ItcheSrulikMemberTraditional means they still use the original siddur, are not egalitarian and keep more of halacha than their committee demands. There are worse things to complain about.
October 23, 2011 3:54 pm at 3:54 pm #819454Dr. SeussMemberConservative and Reform are the same kefira. It’s prohibited to go into one of their houses of prayers, which is no better than a church.

October 23, 2011 5:33 pm at 5:33 pm #819460ItcheSrulikMemberlesschumras: I was going to say “the orthodox siddur.” Now that you mention a name, this thread will be filled with people as ignorant as our OP talking about Dr. Birnbaum.
October 23, 2011 6:31 pm at 6:31 pm #819461JotharMemberItchesrulik, by defending Conservative Judaism you play right into Joseph’s “MO=Conservative” meme. Somewhere out there he must be cackling with glee.
October 23, 2011 6:38 pm at 6:38 pm #819462akupermaParticipantMeaning they only cheat a little bit – being a little bit Conservative is in the glass with phrases such as “a little bit pregnant” or “a little bit of cancer” (the latter probably being a better analogy than the former).

October 23, 2011 11:29 pm at 11:29 pm #819464mos yumosMemberwhat exactly evinces ignorance in the OP?
October 23, 2011 11:43 pm at 11:43 pm #819465soliekMemberconservative judaism is a sham, a lie and a joke. it was started because people were too lazy to keep the torah, and to justify its existence its leaders have come up with some bogus hashkafah. IT NEVER HAD A HASHKAFAH WHEN IT WAS STARTED!!! it was started to keep people to most of the torah…aside from the hard bits.

But it happens to be true. Their ideology stems from the same source. They both (I’m not speaking of Modern Orthodoxy, as a movement. Just a segment of it.) started out as adhering to the Torah. But they were constantly looking for loopholes, in order to make life less difficult. But they keep “Lowering the Bar”, until they’re left with next to nothing. When Conservatism started (at least in the US) they were prohibited from driving a car on Shabbos and women did not get an Aliya. But they kept “Evolving”, in order to be more progressive.
