I am attending Brookdale Community College this semester. I was thinking about switching to Touro nxt semester for a few reasons:
-I would be among mostly Jewish Ppl.
-I probably wont learn about Christianity and other religions.
-It is in NY and I’m starting to date now and plan on living in Bk.
These are reasons I would like to stay in Brookdale:
-A community college is much cheaper.
-I know many of the teachers already.
-My grades are very good this semester so far.
-I’m used to Brookdale and Touro I would have to get used to a whole new system
February 1, 2015 6:56 pm at 6:56 pm #1057229About TimeParticipantWhen Touro College wanted to open a branch near Mir Yeshiva, Reb Shmuel Berenbaum went down to Reb Moshe Feinstein z”l to try to prevent it from happening. Reb Moshe strongly concurred with Reb Shmuel that it was improper in the extreme to open up a college a block away from a Yeshiva Gedolah, and tried to do whatever he could to prevent it .
February 1, 2015 8:37 pm at 8:37 pm #1057230JosephParticipantdhl144: The reasons you gave for going to Touro, IMHO, far outweigh the reasons you gave to stay put.
About Time: Touro isn’t a block away from the Mir Yeshiva. Before its current location is was situated in the Shulamis building.
February 1, 2015 8:59 pm at 8:59 pm #1057231Rema711Memberdhl144 u should go with Touro, a yiddishe neshama shouldn’t be exposed to such a filthy goyishe environment like Brookdale, transfer ASAP

February 2, 2015 3:31 pm at 3:31 pm #1057234TheGoqParticipantRema have you ever been on campus at Brookdale? what gave you the impression the environment is filthy?
February 2, 2015 3:57 pm at 3:57 pm #1057235Rema711MemberThe Goq at Brookdale and any non-jewish college for that matter there is excess drinking, partying, etc
February 2, 2015 4:04 pm at 4:04 pm #1057236TheGoqParticipantBut my question was do you have any first hand knowledge of this occurring at this campus please answer, Brookdale is not a College with dormitories and such the students do not live on campus to my knowledge so it appears to me you are making a generalization about colleges in general but just like all Yeshivas as not the same all colleges are not the same either.
February 2, 2015 4:17 pm at 4:17 pm #1057237gavra_at_workParticipantBrookdale Community College is near Lakewood; it may give you an advantage in dating.
Seriously though, I have no idea why you would want to be part of anything related to the famous Rabbi Sally (Priesand).
February 2, 2015 6:35 pm at 6:35 pm #1057238Rema711MemberThe Goq he should be in a jewish environment so he should pick Touro
February 2, 2015 10:22 pm at 10:22 pm #1057239TheGoqParticipantNot the point Rema you stated as fact that it is a treif environment when you have never been there and no little about it, the reason this bothers me is that blanket statements i think are just wrong when an anti-semite says all jews are money grubbing big nose cheapskates that is wrong when frum jews say all goyim are beer guzzling, evil, jew haters that is also wrong.
February 3, 2015 7:48 am at 7:48 am #1057240Daniel Q BlogMemberThe answer is dependent on a few matters; however, if you are going into a field that Touro is strong at or well suited towards – choose Touro. If you happen to be into (achveis) Graphic Design or something more nuanced Touro might not have or little of. Touro is not perfect (it’s college rabbosai) but its a very nice environment for a yeshiva bochur.
In addition, for the harrys amongst us, Landers has an evening program that many Chofetz Chaim and Ohr HaChaim talmidim go (with a few others sprinkled in) that is in a more low key enviro than Flatbush if that would suit you better. But again there are multiple matters to consider despite Touro being the best option in a vacuum.

February 3, 2015 5:49 pm at 5:49 pm #1057242TheGoqParticipantYour still wrong rema to condemn Brookdale if you have no direct knowledge of it sweeping generalizations as i said earlier are just wrong you said Brookdale is a treif place without having any knowledge about it.
February 3, 2015 6:31 pm at 6:31 pm #1057243Rema711MemberThe Goq u have no proof it isn’t
February 3, 2015 7:21 pm at 7:21 pm #1057244Sam2ParticipantBrookdale is a community college and mostly a commuter school. I don’t know anything firsthand, but usually those types of schools lack the on-campus parties and such that makes college such a bad place for Frum people.
February 3, 2015 9:05 pm at 9:05 pm #1057245Rema711MemberSam2 but still…
February 3, 2015 10:06 pm at 10:06 pm #1057246goofusParticipantRema711,
You responded to the goq saying, “u have no proof it isn’t.” (Sic)
That is not how debate works. You made the claim about Brookdale, therefore you have the burden of proof.
Learn the rules of debate before engaging.
February 3, 2015 10:39 pm at 10:39 pm #1057247anon1m0usParticipantA better question is: Do you want a college or a continuation of high school?
February 3, 2015 11:39 pm at 11:39 pm #1057248TheGoqParticipantActually I do have direct knowledge or BCC it is a 2 year community college and many of its graduates go on to 4 year colleges after graduation, sam2 is correct I have spent some time on campus I even attended its graduation once and it is a very nice environment not at all like SOME dormitory colleges.
February 4, 2015 12:11 am at 12:11 am #1057249Rema711MemberThe Goq u speak opinion puff not fact
February 4, 2015 12:16 am at 12:16 am #1057250zahavasdadParticipantTouro is overpriced for not such a good degree
Most commuter colleges (CUNY Schools) are basically just people who go in morning and leave after classes. There are no parties or anything like that. Most people just go for the degree.
I cannot comment on Brookdale, but I saw its a NJ Communitity college and likely to be similar to CUNY schools
February 4, 2015 12:30 am at 12:30 am #1057252Binyamin2711ParticipantI’m Sure he graduated by now? What’s the Hocke for ? (this post was 2 yrs ago)
