notpashut, even the people I know who go/went there say its yeshivish.
December 16, 2008 2:44 pm at 2:44 pm #631579notpashutMemberSjs,
I guess it depends where they are coming from. 🙂
December 16, 2008 3:12 pm at 3:12 pm #631580noitallmrParticipantAnyone know of any decent Yeshivo’s in the U.K?
December 16, 2008 4:03 pm at 4:03 pm #631581SJSinNYCMembernotpashut, they come from families who call themselves yeshivish 🙂
December 16, 2008 4:52 pm at 4:52 pm #631582loyalyidMemberYe ye, all of us know which yeshiva is best, but after all we all choose “YESHIVA WORLD” as our primary yeshiva..
December 16, 2008 5:31 pm at 5:31 pm #631583gavra_at_workParticipantSJSinNYC:
Darchei teaches AP’s, doesn’t ask if you own a TV, but doesn’t allow / discourages college in BM. I think they don’t want to place a label on themselves, which is a good thing for a community school (had some friends who left there and joined me in BM due to the no college issue).
December 16, 2008 5:51 pm at 5:51 pm #631584SJSinNYCMemberGavra, that might make more sense. Most of the people I know went there for BM. Only my moderately yeshivish cousin went there for high school.
Just out of curiosity – if they teach APs in HS, and then a student goes to BM, how do they explain the paradox?
December 16, 2008 6:02 pm at 6:02 pm #631585gavra_at_workParticipantSJSinNYC
I admit ignorance. Perhaps a 5T person who has children in HS or BM in Darchei (or your cousin) can answer that.
December 16, 2008 7:23 pm at 7:23 pm #631586kiruvwifeMembercan anyone give info on the following (for mesivta and B”M) : Peekskill, South Fallsburg, Springfield? (and any other yeshivos that are similar?)
December 17, 2008 2:13 am at 2:13 am #631587asdfghjklParticipantSouth Fallsburg: is a great place for real serious full time learners!!! it is a really warm yeshiva lead by HaRosh HaYeshiva Rav Elya Ber Wachfogel!!!
December 17, 2008 3:22 am at 3:22 am #631588JosephParticipantasdfghjkl,
Were you a student there?
December 17, 2008 3:33 am at 3:33 am #631589beaconParticipantasd
what’s with the exclamation points!!! You put them after every sentence!!
December 17, 2008 3:47 am at 3:47 am #631590asdfghjklParticipantJoseph: enough with the fbi questions pal!!!
December 17, 2008 4:01 am at 4:01 am #631591asdfghjklParticipantbeacon: t’s my signature thing around here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(is that enough?)
December 17, 2008 5:05 am at 5:05 am #631592brooklyn19Participantjoseph couldn’t join the FBI if he tried. he’s got “secret agent” written all over him which makes it obvious that he’s a fraud.
December 17, 2008 5:45 am at 5:45 am #631593asdfghjklParticipantbrooklyn19: very true, wise statement regarding sir joseph & the fbi!!!
Edited
December 17, 2008 6:48 pm at 6:48 pm #631595brooklyn19Participantsorry asdfghjkl, that’s not a word in the english language. and i don’t speak swahili.
December 18, 2008 12:08 am at 12:08 am #631597asdfghjklParticipantbrooklyn19: lol maybe he’s cia???
December 18, 2008 12:20 am at 12:20 am #631598noitallmrParticipantWell done moderators for a fantastic job once again. Vehamaivin Yovin!!!
December 18, 2008 12:54 am at 12:54 am #631599brooklyn19Participantsame difference. (and YES i know that’s not really english!)
December 18, 2008 1:20 am at 1:20 am #631600Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantsurfer mentioned R’ Alster’s yeshiva. I go to his shul in Bklyn, i know firsthand that the students there are top-rate, really fine boys-and R’ Alster himself is worth going to the yeshiva for!
also, kollelwife asked about a few schools including Peekskill and South Fallsburg……..one of my brothers just finished BM in Peekskill. Happens to be the yeshiva wasnt his type at all, but he loved it–the R’Y is very into the boys and takes a sincere interest in their learning and growth process
S. Fallsburg: my father went there, and he raised me…lol jk dont know that much about it, but I think it has a very good reputation…good luck!
December 18, 2008 1:52 am at 1:52 am #631601tzippiMemberSJS, I don’t see a stira. Take APs in high school, get a good few solid years of exclusive Torah learning (i.e. beis medrash), then start taking some college classes. That’s one scenario.
December 18, 2008 1:59 am at 1:59 am #631602kiruvwifeMemberthanks BY maydel—(I”m a kollel wife as well)…what “type” is Peekskill?
December 18, 2008 2:38 am at 2:38 am #631603Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantlol sorry i got your name wrong!! (one-track minded lol)
peekskill is considered very yeshivish, (…EDITED…) anyone can really fit in, like my brother did, he’s not yehivish at all, but he went for the excellent learning and rebbeim and rosh yeshiva
December 18, 2008 2:46 am at 2:46 am #631604Bais Yaakov maydelParticipanttheres also Ohr Reuven in Monsey, or more commonly known as Rudinsky’s….Rabbi Rudinsky is famous among the boys…i have a cousin there…basically they teach so that when the boys come out, they really know their stuff
December 18, 2008 3:27 am at 3:27 am #631605Esther1MemberDoes anyone know anything about Newman’s in Lakewood?
December 18, 2008 8:31 pm at 8:31 pm #631606charlie brownMemberBYM,
be careful about revealing too much personal info online, you never know who may figure out your identity. I doubt there are too many ppl who’s father went to South Fallsburg, have an unyeshivish brother who just left peekskill and a cousin in Ohr reuven. I have no idea who you are but anyone who knows your family can probably figure it out.
December 18, 2008 8:46 pm at 8:46 pm #631607brooklyn19Participantyeah, BYM, charlie’s right. you should take a crash course by joseph.
December 18, 2008 8:56 pm at 8:56 pm #631608flatbush27MemberYeshiva Aderes HaTorah is awesome in Yerushalayim led by Rav Chaim Tzvi Senter and there were a few Newmans guys there when I was there and they are good learners and good guys.
December 18, 2008 9:11 pm at 9:11 pm #631609noitallmrParticipantLakewood by the Rebbe R’ Matisyahu is the place to be!
December 18, 2008 9:17 pm at 9:17 pm #631610JosephParticipantbrooklyn19, my crash course has crashed.
December 19, 2008 5:33 am at 5:33 am #631611brooklyn19Participantwhat does that mean?
December 19, 2008 5:49 am at 5:49 am #631612JosephParticipantLast page you said bym should take a crash course with me…
December 19, 2008 2:05 pm at 2:05 pm #631613brooklyn19Participantyeah i got that part. but what’s a “crashed crash course?” am i being slow or something?
December 21, 2008 5:42 pm at 5:42 pm #631614RoshYeshivahMemberWachsman’s Yeshivah in monsey top of the line! Bound to be the next lakewood.
December 21, 2008 9:03 pm at 9:03 pm #631615Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantthanks bklyn and charlie for the heads up.
what does joseph havta do with it?
December 21, 2008 9:07 pm at 9:07 pm #631616brooklyn19Participantlol he could train you on being discreet
December 21, 2008 9:42 pm at 9:42 pm #631617Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantlol. i see. i didnt think ppl would actually gather all the small details and put them together to find…ME lol maybe thats the problem??
December 21, 2008 11:22 pm at 11:22 pm #631618TOHIGHSCHOOLGUYMemberBYM … kind of, and it is especially ironic that in another thread, you warned me not to post personal info online
December 22, 2008 3:29 am at 3:29 am #631619Bais Yaakov maydelParticipantya i remember that TOHSGUY….i think i just got carried away, or thought it wasnt so personal and who on earth is remembering everything i talk about…but from now on, ill watch out 🙂 thanks mini-mods

December 22, 2008 5:14 am at 5:14 am #631621yrosMemberanyone know anything about R’ Nosson Stein’s Yeshiva in Lakewood?
December 22, 2008 5:27 am at 5:27 am #631622Esther1Memberyros – Good boys, good learners. I think others have mentioned Springfield and Fallsburg in this thread. Stein’s is not as yeshivish as those. Great yeshiva!
December 22, 2008 3:42 pm at 3:42 pm #631623wtrbry rocksMemberI’m still looking for any info on Woodlake village in Lakewood.
I’m clueless. thanks
December 22, 2008 5:32 pm at 5:32 pm #631624SJSinNYCMemberI asked my husband (who went to Darchei for BM) about the Darchei conflict and this was his explanation:
Darchei is yeshivish. They also have a really strong secular education for the members of the community that want it, and to ensure that their kids can go out and do well if need be. The secular education counterbalances the yeshivish leanings of the school.
In Beis Medrash, without the secular studies, only the Yeshivish philosophy is left. They push hard to keep you learning.
So to sum up: the high school is yeshivish and you get top notch Jewish and secular education.
