I have come up with this question, it may sound stupid, but nevertheless my father says he understands where the question is coming from.
Over the course of my travels via rides with other people. I have noticed that some drivers when they are driving on a toll road get off the exit before the toll plaza and then get back on, thereby avoiding to pay the toll. My question is as follows: Isn’t that considered stealing from the State when you do the above mentioned method of avoiding to pay tolls while driving on tolls roads which most times are the most direct route to your destination?

It would be very different if you used some illegal or semi-legal method to avoid the toll.
BTW many times this method adds more time to the trip than its worth. It is not a zero sum game

I am asking this from an Halachic standpoint. i would think it would be considered gezel daas( tricking minds or whatever this concept is) as by going onto a toll road, is like agreeing to pay the state to use this road and by diverting to the last exit before the toll plaza to avoid paying.
I think that is problematic according to Halacha. I am sure there are other issues in Halacha from this method. Maybe one of the memebers who is really knowledgeable in halacha and Gemara can enlighten us if I am correct in this halachic question.

You do not mislead anyone by entering a toll road.

July 17, 2014 3:00 am at 3:00 am #1023647HaLeiViParticipantIf it would trully be a toll road there would be no entrance or exit without a toll booth. This is the way it is by bridges. These roads in which you can leve an exit earlier and avoid tolls, aren’t real toll roads. They just have the right to charge you for using the full length.
