March 3, 2009 1:54 am at 1:54 am #656469SJSinNYCMemberMoish, your family is lucky to have you to save them 😀
I do know a lot of non-fakers, but you do have to pick through the fakers. Just realize, that fakers exist in all societies, not just Judaism – you just cannot escape it.
March 3, 2009 1:56 am at 1:56 am #656470moish01Memberha goody i think i did. about some faker guy who lied his way through life and then messed it up? i didn’t even mean it to that extent. i meant that they’re just plain old blank, dumb, people (even if they can get a 100 on a test)
i sincerely feel bad for their kids. who knows what i would have done with stupid parents. (i can guarantee you there’s a 95% chance i’d be a druggie… who wouldn’t wanna zone out in that situation??)
March 3, 2009 2:23 am at 2:23 am #656472moish01Membersjs – you make me feel like such a tzaddik. i mean i AM doing all this l’shaim shomayim… for their sakes…
March 3, 2009 2:25 am at 2:25 am #656473SJSinNYCMemberWhat do you mean for their sakes?
March 3, 2009 2:27 am at 2:27 am #656474moish01Memberoh just so that they have some meaning in their lives. so i get to have fun and be a bum so that they could grow from it. awesome plan, don’t you think?
March 3, 2009 3:09 am at 3:09 am #656476mazal77ParticipantNo one mentioned the book “Praying with Fire” The Second book just came out also. I’ve read the first one and very inspiring insights are to be found in this book.
March 3, 2009 9:36 pm at 9:36 pm #656479areivimzehlazehParticipantmaybe cynicism (and having been hit too hard) is what makes a person perceive others as ‘fakers’…
March 3, 2009 9:41 pm at 9:41 pm #656480moish01Memberam i cynical?? i never thought i was… you got me thinking here
March 3, 2009 9:48 pm at 9:48 pm #656481areivimzehlazehParticipantI said MAYBE… and I never mentioned you, just threw it out there as an open thought. I do not know you well enough to say what exactly you’re all about and what makes you tick.
March 3, 2009 9:48 pm at 9:48 pm #656482Belev EchadParticipantmoish, you’re cracking me up!
March 3, 2009 9:57 pm at 9:57 pm #656484areivimzehlazehParticipantwhat’s so funny? i hate to miss a good joke
March 5, 2009 2:08 am at 2:08 am #656486goody613Memberwhat i find most effetive is waiting a few min. b4 and then concentrating on the meaning.
random sheilah: is waiting b4 shemoneh esreh considered a hefsek between goal yisroel and shemoneh esreh?
March 5, 2009 8:47 pm at 8:47 pm #656487areivimzehlazehParticipantI am not paskening
I don’t think it’s a hefsek as long as you do not motion, talk or move around. If you are just standing at your place waiting to start, but need a minute to concentrate…
March 8, 2009 9:05 pm at 9:05 pm #656488goody613Memberthanx
March 8, 2009 9:28 pm at 9:28 pm #656489kapustaParticipantbut there is probably a difference between a minute and a few minutes 🙂
March 8, 2009 10:45 pm at 10:45 pm #656490goody613MemberI don’t think so b/c youre allowed to stop in middle of shemoneh esreh to regain your conversation
March 8, 2009 10:47 pm at 10:47 pm #656491an open bookParticipantdo you mean concentration?
March 8, 2009 10:48 pm at 10:48 pm #656492anonymisssParticipantgoody, conversation or concentration????
~a~
March 8, 2009 10:51 pm at 10:51 pm #656493kapustaParticipantsame thing actually you can stop to increase concentration in your conversation with Hashem
goody I never knew that…thanks for letting me know
🙂
March 8, 2009 10:53 pm at 10:53 pm #656494an open bookParticipanti guess, but it sounds funny, like you can take a few minutes to resume conversation with your friend. but i know what you mean
March 9, 2009 12:48 am at 12:48 am #656495goody613Memberoops i meant concentration
March 9, 2009 1:55 am at 1:55 am #656496torahtzivaMembergoody613: Close your eyes during shemoneh esray.
March 9, 2009 1:58 am at 1:58 am #656497an open bookParticipantthen you might get confused with the words though
March 9, 2009 8:23 pm at 8:23 pm #656498moish01Memberseriously, purim is tonight and tomorrow. i’m gonna feel like such a rat if i can’t/don’t daven.
March 9, 2009 9:01 pm at 9:01 pm #656499areivimzehlazehParticipantyou can start out by davening, begging Hashem to help you daven properly. It sounds like you do want to, so that’s for real, and it’ll feel good
March 9, 2009 9:18 pm at 9:18 pm #656500kapustaParticipanteveryone say chaf beis today? see my post on the general shmooze thread

March 10, 2009 2:16 am at 2:16 am #656502an open bookParticipantkapusta: i knew about that, but i forgot 🙁
moish01: c’mon, just start. you don’t have to start out aiming to say every little thing.
March 10, 2009 2:39 am at 2:39 am #656503anonymisssParticipantI said it. Thank you, kapusta, for letting us know about it.

well said. Start with the basics… but don’t forget your commitment to saying modeh ani.
(Feeling overwhelmed by taking on a few things at once? Now you see why you need to get each small thing down pat before moving on. Creating a good habit is not so bad; get used to saying modeh ani.)
March 11, 2009 9:49 pm at 9:49 pm #656505moish01Memberok, areivim, i didn’t forget. happy? i have been saying it. not like it makes a huge difference.
you’re driving me nuts trying to appeal to my conscience. it really kills me.
March 11, 2009 9:55 pm at 9:55 pm #656506an open bookParticipant🙂 you & 1 other person are making my day 🙂
March 12, 2009 8:01 pm at 8:01 pm #656508areivimzehlazehParticipantmoish, you’re not doing this for ME!… I have no more koiyach to argue this point.
Please keep us posted on your progress, or even lack thereof (you are not acting like a sucker by doing this!!)
March 12, 2009 8:09 pm at 8:09 pm #656509moish01Memberoh i know i’m not doing it for you. but i feel like i have you checking up on me. when are report cards? as much as i don’t get an aleph for the teacher, i sure hate to fail…
March 12, 2009 8:39 pm at 8:39 pm #656510areivimzehlazehParticipantif you would only know how many times I held myself back from ‘checking on you’… 😉
I’m really not checking, I’m just concerned and reminding you is all 🙂
“as much as i don’t get an aleph for the teacher”- huh?
PS- you’re far from a failing student
March 12, 2009 8:52 pm at 8:52 pm #656511moish01Memberha how would you know if i fail?? course i do – i haven’t opened a gemara in forever. i guess i wouldn’t call it “failing” – more like “incomplete.”
March 12, 2009 8:54 pm at 8:54 pm #656512areivimzehlazehParticipanti’m talkin bout failing in my book… and Hashem’s
March 12, 2009 8:57 pm at 8:57 pm #656513charlie brownMembermoish,
a guy who fasted on taanis esther and went to mincha/maariv recently aint no failing student. sorry.
March 12, 2009 9:02 pm at 9:02 pm #656514moish01Membercharlie, i didn’t “go” anywhere for mincha/maariv. just by the way. and i’m not sure why i fasted… feels really strange now actually.
areivim, a “C” is worse than an “incomplete” in my opinion.
March 12, 2009 9:02 pm at 9:02 pm #656515moish01Memberoh no – you’re gonna kill me for that last one
March 12, 2009 10:37 pm at 10:37 pm #656516kapustaParticipantmoish an incomplete means someone doesnt care enough to do an assignment, not incapable 🙂
March 12, 2009 10:48 pm at 10:48 pm #656517moish01Memberi know. that’s why i’d rather no mark at all than a bad mark.
March 12, 2009 10:52 pm at 10:52 pm #656518kapustaParticipantyeah but you cant pass the term until you finish up all the work 🙂
March 12, 2009 10:56 pm at 10:56 pm #656519moish01Memberok, so i won’t get promoted to the next grade. that’s why we drop out 😉
March 12, 2009 11:42 pm at 11:42 pm #656520moish01Memberkapusta, you’re so lazy you won’t read a comment if the pages are messed up? wow.
March 12, 2009 11:49 pm at 11:49 pm #656521kapustaParticipantmoish you dropped out? didnt know that 🙂 and where on earth did you get that idea? 🙂
