Any suggestions?? Lately I can’t concentrate on my tefillos
February 22, 2009 11:49 pm at 11:49 pm #656414an open bookParticipanttake a minute or 2 before u start to clear your mind & focus on what you’re about to do
February 23, 2009 1:48 am at 1:48 am #656415goody613MemberThanx i’ve tried that it works but towards the end my mind starts wandering
February 23, 2009 3:33 am at 3:33 am #656416qwertyuiopMembergoody: i used to fall asleep during davening, but then i tried concentrating on the words more, and B”H it has been working for me.$
February 23, 2009 3:36 am at 3:36 am #656417asdfghjklParticipantthere’s a sefer ”pathway to prayer” that might help ya!!!!
February 23, 2009 4:06 am at 4:06 am #656418amichaiParticipantstart with berachos. try to really understand the meaning. use a siduur with eng. explanation if need be. stick with concentrating on that for a week and move on slowly. do not rush it. slowly we will have an appreciation for the tefillos. maybe someone can start a thread on understanding tefillos better. and when you do daven, send up a tefilla that hashem will help you. hatzlocha.
February 23, 2009 4:07 am at 4:07 am #656419JosephParticipantgoodyear613, Daven as much davening as you can concentrate on, with kavana.
February 23, 2009 5:04 am at 5:04 am #656420flatbush27Memberi once heard this. for the first 5 minutes dont look out of your siddur. if someone drops something or whatever distraction dont look up. do the 5 minutes for a week. then the next week do 10. every week add on another 5. it could even be less depending on the person, but if you try to do it all at once it wont work.dont do 5 the first day and 10 the next day. hatzlocha
February 23, 2009 3:32 pm at 3:32 pm #656421APushetaYidParticipantgoody613: Try this i once heared a shiur.. and the speaker spoke about tefillah he said there are times that a person doesn’t have patience to daven… or can’t concentrate.. a person should never give up! bec. these are just eras.. nisoyins.. he gave a good idea… before davening tell yourself… ok today i will have kevuna by oshrie… take one kapital at a time. and then youll see after a while it will get better.. also of course ask hashem to help u concentrate!!!! thats the first step ! Good Luck!! and i wish u the best! to be close to hashem is JUST GREAT!!!!!!!!!
February 24, 2009 9:51 pm at 9:51 pm #656422areivimzehlazehParticipantthere is a famous sign that says the following:
Good morning, this is Hashem. I will be handling all your problems today. I will not need your help. So, relax and have a great day.
If you think of this before davening (and of course- Da Lifnei Mee Atoh Omeid), you will have a good starting point of how you want to daven. It sets the right perspective. Just unburden yourself, ask for anything you might need, thank Hashem in the correct sections of davening for all the good He does for us etc.
February 24, 2009 9:57 pm at 9:57 pm #656423moish01Memberhey thanks for bringing this up. i really wanted to daven since the beginning of last week. i just can’t bring myself to. i dunno why but i feel like i haven’t davened in a long while. (maybe because i didn’t? that was a stupid why to phrase that sentence but i can’t think of a better way.)
February 24, 2009 10:02 pm at 10:02 pm #656424areivimzehlazehParticipanthope you read all the other tips… slow but steady wins the race
February 24, 2009 10:04 pm at 10:04 pm #656425areivimzehlazehParticipantps- I am so happy (no expectations) that you miss davening/want to start again. Hatzlocho
pps- when inspiration strikes, you must act upon it right away, do an action that directly correlates with the inspiration- otherwise you lose it and it fades away
February 24, 2009 10:04 pm at 10:04 pm #656426moish01Memberit’s not the actual davening. it’s picking up the siddur. (hey we should bring up the “and moish” thread. haha)
and i never “quit” davening.
February 24, 2009 10:17 pm at 10:17 pm #656427areivimzehlazehParticipantyou never quit davening cuz even when you’re saying “oh please g-d, let me survive this tackle”, you are davening
February 24, 2009 10:25 pm at 10:25 pm #656428moish01Memberhaha. i guess i do put god in my life more than many other people.
February 25, 2009 1:30 am at 1:30 am #656429an open bookParticipant🙂 moish01
February 25, 2009 1:51 am at 1:51 am #656430moish01Memberhey it even works sometimes 😉
February 25, 2009 2:13 am at 2:13 am #656431an open bookParticipantdoes that mean ppl post lessons & things on here? cuz that would be great! its not so easy for me to get ahold of jewish books, even like that
February 25, 2009 2:29 am at 2:29 am #656432goody613MemberI just started learning Rav shamshon Pincus’s sefer on the siddur and it is very interestig and inspiring
February 25, 2009 3:06 am at 3:06 am #656433asdfghjklParticipanti’m proud of someone………!!!!!!!!
February 25, 2009 3:06 am at 3:06 am #656434David S.MemberThis is a very interesting topic. Thanks for bringing this up. What I do is:Whenever you get off track during davening, concentrate on the letters and words in the siddur and their meaning, just focus in on them. that always works for me.
Thanks, David
February 25, 2009 3:12 am at 3:12 am #656435an open bookParticipantmoish01: that reminds me of my friend, who was all suprised when they understood the material the 1 time that they listened in class 😉
February 25, 2009 8:46 pm at 8:46 pm #656436moish01Memberoh i meant in football. i don’t usually get crushed. but i guess there had to be one time god said ‘no’
February 25, 2009 11:56 pm at 11:56 pm #656437an open bookParticipantmoish01: i know, it just reminded me of that. but it was for a good reason, rite? u came here! (or were u already a member?)

February 26, 2009 11:24 pm at 11:24 pm #656440an open bookParticipantthank you that was nice!
March 1, 2009 12:24 am at 12:24 am #656441goody613Memberthanx ames it’s a great book goes through basically every word of davening
March 1, 2009 2:36 am at 2:36 am #656442kapustaParticipantI dont know if this is a tip, but its very interesting
when it says in shmoneh esrai baraich alenu or refuainu or any other bracha its not just a request for parnassa or for health but its also to help us realize what Hashem is capable of doing, giving us parnassa and healing us is nothing for Him.
March 1, 2009 2:53 am at 2:53 am #656443torahtzivaMembergoody613: daven in a quiet shul where there is no talking.
March 1, 2009 9:30 pm at 9:30 pm #656444torahtzivaMemberfinger on the place.
March 1, 2009 11:12 pm at 11:12 pm #656445goody613Memberin the back of pathway to prayer he has 50 suggestions mostly know what your saying
March 1, 2009 11:14 pm at 11:14 pm #656446goody613Memberan interesting one was that whenever you say something meaning You (irCHA, rahamecha) you should emphasize it so you’ll realize youre talking to Hashem
March 1, 2009 11:17 pm at 11:17 pm #656447an open bookParticipant?
are you giving tips to yourself now???
March 2, 2009 12:06 am at 12:06 am #656448kapustaParticipantAOB lol but like ames said before this thread will (hopefully) be used as a davening support group so it was for all of us also 🙂
March 2, 2009 8:20 am at 8:20 am #656451kapustaParticipantames no words for you! How was lunch? 🙂
March 2, 2009 8:22 pm at 8:22 pm #656452areivimzehlazehParticipantmoish- i forget which topic started the ‘modeh ani’ kaballah… but I wanted to check and see how it’s going. or- Is it still goin? please update me on the status. I appreciate it 🙂
March 2, 2009 8:37 pm at 8:37 pm #656453moish01Memberuhhh… it was ok for a week or so… i don’t remember if i’ve been saying it – could be i am and i just don’t realize it… that’s not good is it?? wow i can’t believe i forgot about it
March 2, 2009 9:08 pm at 9:08 pm #656454areivimzehlazehParticipantno prob- whatever the case, now you’re aware of it again. Needing reminders are the norm… the key is to keep at that one thing. Don’t jump around starting a million different things all in one week. None of it will stick. Whatever your mood- stick to this one thing… STAY FOCUSED, TAKE CONTROL. Hatzlocha!!
March 2, 2009 9:38 pm at 9:38 pm #656455moish01Memberwell if it DID become routine already i’m gonna be so disgusted at myself. that make me no better than all the rest of the fakers of the world.
March 2, 2009 9:42 pm at 9:42 pm #656456torahtzivaMemberdon’t talk during chazaros hashatz
March 2, 2009 9:51 pm at 9:51 pm #656459moish01Memberoh don’t worry, torahtziva. i NEVER do. (i think the last time i was in shul was on yom kippur and no one talks on yom kippur so i’m safe)
March 2, 2009 9:51 pm at 9:51 pm #656460areivimzehlazehParticipantmoish- you’re not being a faker!! You are first creating good habits. Step One.
whew- sorry bout the yelling 😉
gotta run soon- will be around for another few minutes
March 2, 2009 10:05 pm at 10:05 pm #656461moish01Memberoh i don’t know if i really work so quickly – i told you i can’t remember saying it but that it might be because i’ve been saying it and got used to it.
March 2, 2009 10:31 pm at 10:31 pm #656462SJSinNYCMemberMoish, a faker is one who pretends to do something l’shem shamayim and then lords it over others. Clearly, that is not you.
March 2, 2009 10:37 pm at 10:37 pm #656463moish01Membernot true. i’m sure some of those fakers are so good at it that they have themselves fooled too. you don’t know the type? i think i do.
March 2, 2009 10:42 pm at 10:42 pm #656464SJSinNYCMemberMoish, they may have fooled themselves, but it doesnt mean they are doing it l’shaim shamayim. They are still doing it to lord it over others. Just because they fooled themselves, doesnt mean they fool the rest of us…
March 2, 2009 10:51 pm at 10:51 pm #656465moish01Memberoh really? and who exactly do you think is gonna get into the “best” yeshiva after high school? and gonna marry into the “best” family? of course they fool the whole world.
hey maybe if they are such good fakers then it really becomes real? i’m nauseous just thinking about it.
March 3, 2009 1:41 am at 1:41 am #656466SJSinNYCMemberMoish, the fakers marry the fakers (you know the “best”). Come on, would you really want to marry the kind of girl that wants to marry a faker guy? You need a real girl – someone who is a person, NOT a faker. Their life is all facade…although sometimes I envy the simplicity of not having to think…
March 3, 2009 1:48 am at 1:48 am #656467moish01Memberwell i’ll be honest, i haven’t given a single thought to marriage. i’m not even going there. i just meant in general. guess what? i think most people are fakers. so even if i don’t get stuck with one – who’s gonna guarantee that my kids won’t be? ugh i’ll disown them.
i think the only reason MY family isn’t living in a fantastical cocoon is because they have to deal with ME.
