ANY IDEAS??
July 22, 2010 6:38 pm at 6:38 pm #691191bptParticipantWhat city are you in? What’s your budget? Day trips? Road trips?
Tons of stuff to do, so narrow it down somewhat.

July 22, 2010 9:02 pm at 9:02 pm #691193gavra_at_workParticipantRav Gifter says Bein Hazmanim is to learn Torah. (Famous Bein HaZmanim Tape)
Keep your usual sedorim, just learn something interesting & different!
How about Yerushalmi, or Nach? Or a Mesechta you would not usually learn in yeshiva?
July 22, 2010 9:02 pm at 9:02 pm #691194WolfishMusingsParticipantLikewise, are you married? Kids? Ages? Likes? Dislikes?
Please, give us some info so we can help you.

July 22, 2010 9:13 pm at 9:13 pm #691195Dave HirschParticipantGavra, I agree with you. Is there really a ‘Bein’ Hazmanim. There is a Chiyuv of ‘Vhigisa Bo Yomam Vlayla’… Well, we’ll give it to those Yeshiva guys. I once thought about it, those Avreichim work more hours daily than your average working-guy. Some start Kollel at 7 in the morning and finish at 11 in the evening (with breaks for meals of course). We all have our vacation days or sick leave, our pillars of the world deserve it too.
There’s a similar thread, you might wanna check it out: http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/inexpensive-family-vacations
July 22, 2010 10:14 pm at 10:14 pm #691196bptParticipantI would go to Tannersville. There, you’ll have minyan and food, and Hunter Mountain has tons of stuff to do, for all levels of interest and fitness. If I rember corretcly, you can even take a cable car to the top to the mountain, and bike downhill.
There is also tubing down the Esophus, out of Phonecia, NY (the place is called Town Tinker).
This can all be done for around $300 (assuming you’re sharing a room with a few friends)

Just last week, you were going on your first date (what to talk on the beshow thread) and now you’re off to vacation with hubby and child?

Wow! That was quick. Just four days ago you were telling us that you were going on your first date and didn’t know what to talk about.
Now you have a husband and baby! That’s pretty good for four days.

Knew you’d have a remark. I’m actually RRYR’s sister. Logged on, on her computer. As soon as I hit reply, I figured someone would come up with something. She’s actually in her own little dating world..she won’t even know I was using her computer! she must have been logged on from earlier today.
Any ideas for me, on how to spend my vacation?
July 27, 2010 5:14 pm at 5:14 pm #691205rryrMemberWolf Musings..my reply to BP Totty was for you too!!! It’s amazing how quick you all respond..just goes to show you can’t judge!!!!!! Like I said I”m her sister. I should really sign up my own account. Thing is I usually don’t have time for such things..I’m just doing some research using my sis’s computer!

Actually, I think that it’s reasonable to expect (unless otherwise explicitly stated) that someone on a message board writes all the messages that are under their name.
Personally, I have long been opposed to the idea of sharing accounts because of situations exactly such as this. However, it’s not my message board…

What you fail to realize is that the CR after a while takes a form of a community, and its very disturbing for a someone in the community to present themselves as someone they are not. So, by all means, pick a name of your own and join the fun.
That said, the only thing I can think of is Mt. Washington. It borders Maine and in Bridgeton, Maine, there is Camp Hamachene, there is access to minyan and I think they might even have food / over shabbos accomodations.
And please, if you don’t want you’re own member name and want to use someone elses log in, at least say in the opening line, you’re a guest
July 27, 2010 5:35 pm at 5:35 pm #691210YW Moderator-80MemberHowever, it’s not my message board…
do you mean to imply that if it was your message board you would not allow more than one person to share the same screename?
July 27, 2010 5:37 pm at 5:37 pm #691211WolfishMusingsParticipantdo you mean to imply that if it was your message board you would not allow more than one person to share the same screename?
In an ideal world, yes, that’s correct. Each person should post under their own screen name.

July 27, 2010 5:41 pm at 5:41 pm #691212bptParticipantBut on the subject, isn’t it odd that little sis (who presumably is in her late teens / early 20s) has on-line access, but is not sure what to talk about on a date? And would momma / poppa be ok if the bocher in question was also an on-line dweller?
This is what I meant when I said that todays girls are more savvy than her male counterpart, which is why, under the microscope of a beshow setting, and one that is limited to 2 hours, 2-3 meetings max, there is NO WAY you can determine what each side is really about. The Beshow concept worked fine in the old days, but now we need to fine tune it, because the boys and girls of today are not the same as they once were.
July 27, 2010 5:50 pm at 5:50 pm #691213YW Moderator-80Memberhow would you propose to do this if this was YOUR board?
perhaps insist that a condition for posting here would be for each poster to purchase a fingerprint or retinal identification machine to confirm the identity of whomever is using their computer, and tie this in to software on this end to only allow the appropriate person to post here?
July 27, 2010 5:53 pm at 5:53 pm #691214YW Moderator-80MemberEach person should post under their own screen name.
obviously.
i was just wondering what you would suggest to insure this, that you would do if it was YOUR message board.
perhaps you can let us know how you manage this problem on your personal blog.
July 27, 2010 6:08 pm at 6:08 pm #691215rryrMemberDon’t want you thinking anything badly of my lil sis. She freelances in web design, and therefore has the computer access at home. She’s in school during the day, going for her masters. So she’s really not one of those online dwellers!
Anybody else have any other ideas for a new hampshire trip? I have another 1/2 hour to check it out..so far I”ve seen about mt. washington, clarks trading post, funspot, alpine adventures, and some others. What about where to stay? is the loon mountain club a nice hotel? anything nicer in the neighborhood?
July 27, 2010 6:47 pm at 6:47 pm #691216WolfishMusingsParticipanthow would you propose to do this if this was YOUR board?
Here’s what I would do.
Firstly, I’d make it an explicit rule that users must agree to.
Secondly, if someone gets caught doing so, warn them.
Thirdly, do it enough times (twice, thrice, whatever…) then ban them.
Yes, I know that you can’t 100% prevent it from happening. I’m not suggesting that it’s possible to prevent a person from posting under someone else’s account if they are so inclined.
Here, however, the practice of “guest posting” is not only tolerated but expressly allowed (see HIE’s account). That, IMHO, is bad policy. I think users have the right to expect that if they see “WolfishMusigns” as the author of a post that it’s actually me (to the best of the board’s ability to enforce that). There’s no reason why users, seeing a contradiction in my posts, should have to figure out “now which Wolf was that…”

July 27, 2010 6:49 pm at 6:49 pm #691217WolfishMusingsParticipantperhaps you can let us know how you manage this problem on your personal blog.
A blog is different than a message board. Firstly, I allow anonymous posting, so there’s not nearly as much of an “identity” behind the posters as there is here. Secondly, to be honest, I don’t have the traffic that this board does and have never run across the problem.

July 27, 2010 6:53 pm at 6:53 pm #691218YW Moderator-80MemberFirstly, I’d make it an explicit rule that users must agree to.
i suppose, i doubt if that would accomplish much though.
Secondly, if someone gets caught doing so, warn them.

there is no way to “catch” them unless they admit to it. inconsistencies in content is no proof as to the cause.
as far as HIE, you’re right
July 27, 2010 7:01 pm at 7:01 pm #691219WolfishMusingsParticipantinconsistencies in content is no proof as to the cause.
It depends on the inconsistency. The one at hand (a first date question and then a question on vacationing with baby & hubby four days later) is quite conclusive as to the cause.

Other than the rules that the Moderators enforce, the only thing I ask is that you take the time to use Caps where they belong, puntuation marks as needed, and PLEASE avoid using text shorthands (4 is spelled for, 2 is spelled to, and wkrs is works).
I know, its the accepted rule in text land, but humor us “old timers”
And “hey” is only one step away from “yo”, and not becoming of a CR member.. (but that’s just me as a parent speaking)

July 28, 2010 2:07 am at 2:07 am #691224Hello KittyMemberrryr, I just visited NH and had a beautiful vacation! We stayed at loon and was very nice. I do think that the hotel is a bit overpriced. I think they take advantage of all the yidden staying there.
I would find a cheaper hotel in the area next time and come to Loon only for minyan.
ABout attractions, there are many to chose from. Look at all the brochures at the hotel lobby and ask for help at the front desk.
July 28, 2010 2:09 am at 2:09 am #691225Hello KittyMemberBP Totty, do you have a name and number of an hotel in Tannersville or Hunters that provides food as well? PLease reply ASAP cuz I still want something for this weekend. THanks
July 28, 2010 3:16 am at 3:16 am #691226mom12ParticipantWe’ve been tp NH several times. Firstly u might want to try Bethlehem for a place to stay. bakerbrook, where we stayed, I believe closed down. there is a site ,I just cant recall the name where people that own apts, in loon, and the small towns around post rental dates their apts are available. Then you would get in touch with the owner and make necessry arrangements. where to pik up key and whom to pay etc..as far as attractions it all depends what u like there are walking and bike trails..storytown for kids and plenty of other things to do pick up brochures as someone els suggested. best bet is to bring as much of your own food as possible. there are places to pik up kosher food but often not fresh and quite minimal and pricey. ENJOY

Do we CR members post here because we have nothing better to do? Some do. Some come here to see what the buzz is, and what the general hock is. Some post because they have the chance to voice / hear opinions that they would otherwise not take part of. But no one appreciates being misled. True, the CR (and on-line in general) is an opaque world, but since this is the YWN, we expect (and hold ourselves) to higher standards. In the case of RR, there was no harm intended, so all is good. And the fact that so many members took notice of the irregularities indicates how much we value the honesty of our virtual community.

There were 2 listings in the paper today:
tannersvillevacation.com
Moshe 917-677-4653
and
springwellmanor.net

I’ve never been to either place, but the draw in Tannersville is the outdoors.. not the indoors, so I would expect very rustic, very heimish
