Why would you need a Shabbos goy if there is an eruv?
Well, maybe Joseph doesn’t use the eruv so he was hoping to find an alternative.
I love when I get a shabbos goy it really gets you out of trouble, specially when little kids turn on lights by mistake, the maid or shabbos goys just knows what to do all the time, and when I dont have help my neighbors maids come in handy all the time. I cannot see myself without one.
this past sunday on yom tov someone got this goyisha asian guy to come into shul in middle of davening to turn on the a.c. it was very funny
You just really must make sure its a ‘real’ goy, and not someone who just ‘looks’ like one.
how can you know that? Could be a tribemember of the lost tribes. Are DNA tests required? What do you do about the descendants of converts who reconverted?
Please, before using a Shabbos Goy, become very familiar with the halachos of “Amira L’Akum”, telling a Goy, because they are numerous and if you don’t know the conditions and how to do it, it’s like you are doing the malacha yourself.
well a shabbos goy cannot carry for you, that is for sure if there is no eruv, and there are a lot of things he cannot do, he cannot turn the lights on if you request it, some poskim I heard you have to leave the room if he turns on the light for you on purpose, but if you tell the shabbos goy to look for your shoes and the only way he is going to find them is by turning on the light for himself it is alright, in the case of the shul some people say he can turn on the a.c. because people need it for a mitzvah, well I dont know much but where I live there are a lot of them so we always have to know what to do and what to ask and what not to ask. It is part of the envirenment.

Yes, there are a lot of shabbos here. People get very used to it.
A Shabbos goy is like a blech- misused and misunderstood froma halchic perspective.

The halachic aspects of using a shabbos goy and how it has evolved over time is beautifully laid out in one of the most well written books concerning halacha. The book is “The Shabbos Goy” or ??? ?? ??? by Professor Jacob Katz z’l, available in any online bookstore and many other places. The original Hebrew version has more detailed footnotes and is highly recommended, but the English version is also good.
Do you know of a stairlift for the elderly that can be used on shabbos?

Years ago I saw,a very funny satire invoice ng a strike by the Shabbos you union. ,
The union President justified their demands by saying how demanding the job was, having to interpret gestcu look actions and random statements and questions at figure out what was being requested
