To be fair, perhaps all these were once rated well and accurate, but I feel they are waaaay exaggerated, as of NOW.
In no particular order:
– wealth/money
– coca- cola
– facebook
– staying up late
– Starbucks
– non-fat anything
– golf
– college degrees
– famous paintings (overrated AND overpriced, me thinks!)
– twitter
– Obama
– vaccinations
– USA
– the British Monarchy
– the superbowl
– Any restaurant you have to wait an hour to get into
– fireworks
– recycling

Circle dancing
Shmorgasbords that have salad
Im not saying that weddings themselves are overrated though.
January 23, 2013 5:26 am at 5:26 am #923289☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantJewish music is not overrated, but the stuff that passes for it nowadays is.
January 23, 2013 1:43 pm at 1:43 pm #923290squeakParticipantDY: you’re saying what every old fogie says, namely that the music you liked was music but everything that comes later doesnt qualify. But I disagree- its never been anything but insolent noise. Every production boils down to the same formula:
Take 3 or 4 random notes and line them up, find a tonal center to put at the end, and theres your low part. Take the same notes and move up an octave or so, theres your high part. Next play a bunch of chords to take away focus from the melody, and call that a song. Then do a goirel hagra to see which part of tanach or sifrei mussar will be sacrificed to become the lyrics- or if you are really looking to skirt the edge, have a chassidish woman write “english” words that oh so subtly refer to moshiach. Its always been this way and the only way people are able to enjoy it is by playing it so loudly that their brain goes into a temporary shock coma allowing primitive instincts and reflexes to take over.
Even a Monkey could do better.

You’re not talking about Andy Statman, are you?
Yes, I’ll admit that my collection has more than just that type, because there’s not enough to avoid boredom. But I agree that even the older “Jewish” music, from the 70’s, 80’s and forward, isn’t genuine either.

Have you ever seen a Famous Painting or Artwork in person?
They are not overated when you see them in person, seeing a picture of them does them no justice

dotnetter – agree with the segulos!! Although few actually work (I’ve tried them myself), the amount of propaganda, and publicity is waaay over the top
January 24, 2013 5:26 pm at 5:26 pm #923303golferParticipantLooking at a beautiful piece of art can be like music for the soul. Try it once, on a day when you can find a calm moment to look, absorb and enjoy.
And did I see someone say Chocolate!!!
Shocked…
