Airlines are notorious for posting one number as a fare, but then adding all kinds of “fees” and “charges” to bring the real number up quite a bit. This also makes it difficult-to-impossible to comparison shop different airlines, since their real fare is hidden.
Senator Schumer has been fighting the airlines for a while now in an effort to force them to honestly and openly post the true price of tickets.
Out of curiosity:
1) What was the “real” fare for the Florida tickets?
2) What fees and charges were added to bring it up from the $89 advertised fare to whatever the true cost was?

I tried entering JFK to Fort Lauderdale round trip for July 18 thru July 22.
The total cost was $221 which came to $250 with all taxes and fees.
The only possibilities I can think of are: a) Your date selection is much more expensive b) Did you perhaps enter two passengers instead of one?
July 8, 2011 8:13 pm at 8:13 pm #841549Sister BearMemberspirit air normally has cheap fares (especially if you join the $9 club) but I’m warning you you’re paying for what you’re getting. No free anything (except ice which they do run out of), no entertainment system….
