(btw, the kehilla in Oudtshoorn, a little town in the middle of a huge semi-desert has a fascinating history. At one time it was called Yerushalayim d’Africa. It was the world centre of the trade in ostrich feathers which was very big in the late 1800s. There was a big litvishe kehilla there with many people who had learned in the great yeshivos of the time. Many seforim were printed there even though geographically they were cut off from the big kehillos of the world. It has now dwindled, but when I last heard about 15 years ago, they still had their own shchita and daily minyonim.)

January 26, 2016 3:17 pm at 3:17 pm #1140896Geordie613ParticipantQuacky,
Objection: North Pole isn’t the name of a place.
January 26, 2016 3:18 pm at 3:18 pm #1140897Geordie613ParticipantOh, I do apologise. Just found this on Wikipedia.
“North Pole, a suburb of Fairbanks (located to the southeast of Fairbanks), is a small city in the Fairbanks North Star Borough, Alaska, United States. It is part of the Fairbanks, Alaska metropolitan statistical area. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city had a population of 2,117”
The minhag is that you put some more information on a place name. Like, New York, NY or Jerusalem, Israel. So you would have put ‘North Pole, Fairbanks Alaska’.

January 28, 2016 1:26 am at 1:26 am #1140917The QueenParticipantLooks like a guitar with four strings. Why shouldn’t it be a name of a town somewhere? We have a street called “wits end”.

Although we are not so strict about that rule because this is the sixth page of this thread, Yongzhou was just used 1 day ago. We have to have some minimum standards here. So if it’s on the same page, then let’s not repeat please.
Quacky; you say ukelele exists, as a place or as an instrument?
I am responding to Quacky.
