Lets hear it.
I’ll share mine. One time I check on the job she’s done on the kids’ room and I find in the crib a teddy bear laying like as if its a baby under the blankie and in its paws its holding one of the baby’s dirty stinky cheese making bottys which she should have put into the kitchen sink. ?????
Or how about the time when the whole playroom mess is in the center of the floor with mixed in nosh, and every small pieces of playmobile to blocks and I am basically trying to make an example of how to pick it apart, get garbage separate from the goods and she turns her back to me and goes for the doll house to clean and arrange the cute little doll house furniture and rearrange that.
????
Or how about when I’ve told her many times we hang up dresses and skirts in closets but she keeps folding my skirts into tiny oregami type boxes of art and stuffing them one on top of the other into one drawer until you can barely open the drawer?
Either she is lazy, just doesnt care or is evil?
Please share your expereinces.
October 17, 2012 10:32 pm at 10:32 pm #899949How ’bout the time she takes the kid to church with her while the parents are out.

But I guess when Eisav Soneh Es Yaakov is the prevailing attitude we can’t really expect much different.

I think the prevailing attitude is Yaakov Soneh Es Eisav. In all my years of employment I was never refered to as “The Jew”.

How about the one who would sit and watch the dryer go round and round, and couldnt do anything else meanwhile because she was busy doing the laundry.
October 17, 2012 11:37 pm at 11:37 pm #899953golferParticipantAre you sure, Dash?
Presonally, I think the cleaning help in Jewish homes have a good laugh at our expense when they go home. They are treated with kid gloves, paid far more than they are worth, and take major advantage of their employers.
October 18, 2012 12:04 am at 12:04 am #899954Veltz MeshugenerMember@crisisofthweek You’re too late. It was racist and xenophobic from the word goyters.
October 18, 2012 12:12 am at 12:12 am #899955Ðash®ParticipantAntisemitism certainly exists, but it is not the prevailing attitude.
October 18, 2012 1:09 am at 1:09 am #899956BrooklinebornParticipantI would disagree that the house cleaners and help are being paid a living wage. most are paid below minimum wage and asked to do things that no one else will do. They are paid off the books and take the job because it is the work they can get. I do not see it so well compared to other job.
I find the term Goy as bad as the terms I was called growing up in a town that had very few jews. There are terms that are just not acceptable and THE GOY is one of them, goyters is just worse. i do find it funny at all or clever.

October 18, 2012 3:40 am at 3:40 am #899960EnderParticipantBrooklineborn “most are paid below minimum wage”.
Minimum wage is $7.25, please tell me who you use for cheaper than that. I’ll even pay you a finders fee. Most charge almost double minimum wage.
October 18, 2012 4:04 am at 4:04 am #899961MammeleParticipantBB: the minimum wage for most of us (federal, NY, NJ) is $7.25. If that were the prevailing wage for cleaning help, maybe I’d actually afford it. In my neighborhood it starts at 10. And off the books equals tax free (not even Fica). I don’t think home attendants make more, and they must go for training and have taxes deducted. Also, usually the employer provides lunch, dinner or both.
It’s definitely hard work, but don’t claim they are being mistreated. Most aren’t, or they simply “fire” their bosses (no resumes or even references to worry about)…
October 18, 2012 4:17 am at 4:17 am #899962WiseyParticipantIf your cleaning lady is philipino she wouldn’t constitute as Eisav.
October 18, 2012 4:53 am at 4:53 am #899964Yeshivishsocrates1ParticipantWhen the prevailing attitude is eisav soneh l’yaacov….
Sounds highly condescending to me…. Can I just draw your attention to the origins of this ‘prevailing attitude.’ rashi, the little known commentary who’s every comma demands explanation, who’s punctilious attitude to his commentary means that every single word written was done so deliberately and with intention, quotes Reb Shimon bar yochai, the tanna who’s responsible for the prevalence of Torah today, the tanna who was supported miraculously by hashem himself, the tanna in who’s merit the world existed, as having said, LEHALACHA that eisav soneh l’yaacov. Regardless of your understanding of it, this is not merely some adage which is sprouted by the ‘ignorant Yeshivish people.’ Its fact, it is gospel truth. We may not appreciate it, we may have experience which conflict this Halacha but, when our experiences challenge rashi and rashbi’s opinions, we can safely decide which site to pick.

October 18, 2012 4:58 am at 4:58 am #899966yitzchokmParticipanttime to close this tread. sorry, arwsf.
October 18, 2012 6:42 am at 6:42 am #899967Avi KParticipant“Goy” is Hebrew for “nation”. We are also a goy – a goy kadosh. “Gentile” comes from the Latin translation of “Goyim”(“Gentium”).”Ben/Bat Noach” or “Noahide” are also acceptable. “Sheigetz” and “Shiksa” are, however, very offensive as they come from “shaketz”.
