The difference between renting movies and a TV, is that renting a movie costs a couple bucks, while renting a TV costs much more.
October 29, 2010 5:34 pm at 5:34 pm #704976tuchscreenMembercould faucets stop the flood if its already there. the only way to get rid of it is by turning OFF those faucets you gotta get rid of the waterbefore the water turns dirty gotta get rid of that tv
October 29, 2010 5:37 pm at 5:37 pm #704977SJSinNYCMemberWell, under your faucet is a basin with a drain. The only time its a problem is if the drain gets clogged or the water flow is too much for the drain (if its been designed properly, this is virtually impossible).
Unless you have a faucet draining right into your living room?

October 29, 2010 6:10 pm at 6:10 pm #704980mw13Participantsqueak: Again, I believe the internet is normally filtered, so it is harmless, while TV is normally not (is it even possible to filter TV?), which would make it harmful.
October 29, 2010 6:25 pm at 6:25 pm #704981crdleMemberreal brisker- cuz u expect more from yeshivish ppl! meaning when u walk around looking like the average Kollel guy , its weird to see u come out of a movie rental joint and drive away in your 15 year old car! its just weird!
mw13- how on earth can u say internet shows are filtered as opossed to tv? it’s the exact same thing ( my entire point)
Its cute the my discussions cause such waves, impressive.
October 29, 2010 6:28 pm at 6:28 pm #704982crdleMemberoh and what does OP mean?
October 29, 2010 6:39 pm at 6:39 pm #704983popa_bar_abbaParticipantpopa, is old age catching up with you?
More literally, I am catching up with it.
October 31, 2010 1:59 am at 1:59 am #704984mw13Participantcrdle: The shows themselves may not be filtered, but what websites one can visit, and hence what shows one can watch, normally are. However, by TV one can watch any one of hundreds of shows (many of them inappropriate, to say the least) with the press of a button.
October 31, 2010 5:05 am at 5:05 am #704985crdleMemberfor your information, when u get cable tv u can ask for specific channels to be blocked! and as someone said before, whatever you watch on tv u can watch online. Im sorry but some of u are really contradicting yourselves. Internet, just cuz u can or can’t have a filter is the exact same thing, and im sure that most of you dont just have internet inorser to sit on yeshiva world………
October 31, 2010 5:20 am at 5:20 am #704986kapustaParticipantTwo comments.
A. A TV and renting movies is very different. TV means practically anything is accessible at any time with no effort. Renting a movie requires some effort, and if the person has any busha, they will be embarrassed to take out something which anyone else can see is dirty.
B. That being said, a TV has certain redeeming qualities over the internet (and definitely anything hand held that has unfiltered internet). A TV usually is a main attraction of a main room in a house. Most kids (adults are a different story) will not stretch out on the couch and watch adult programming when anyone can walk in at any time.
*To the poster who saw the yeshiva guys walking into blockbuster, is it possible they were getting something for school? I remember in high school certain films (which had books we were reading in class) were passed around.
October 31, 2010 6:09 am at 6:09 am #704987TheChevraMembercrdle, I don’t think any cable co’s allow you to block individual stations. In any event, I don’t know of any channels that only have kosher stuff on 24/7. So TV cannot be blocked.
October 31, 2010 10:44 am at 10:44 am #704988apushatayidParticipantIf someone was determined, they could bypass the best filters available.
Is that the type of person we are discussing?
October 31, 2010 11:35 am at 11:35 am #704990minyan galMember“oh and what does OP mean? “
crdle – OP means “original poster”, that is the person who began the thread, which in this thread is you.
October 31, 2010 12:16 pm at 12:16 pm #704991aries2756ParticipantYou can download netflix to any computer even with a filter if you accept downloads. So you can get any kind of movie you want on your internet without being embarrassed in front of anyone.
Anyone who wants to watch shmutz will do so on TV, video, dvd, or internet. Or they can find it in books or magazines or go to a movie house or theater. And anyone who doesn’t won’t. Anyone who thinks none of the above isn’t kosher won’t be able to read any of these comments anyway.
Enough said?
October 31, 2010 12:45 pm at 12:45 pm #704992EnderParticipantHow about childrens movies? are they all “sewage” as well?
