Isn’t there any time when someone’s looking for serious information that its permitted to give the truth out? ex. camps, seminaries, etc. like is being discussed somewhat on another thread. You can’t get real feedback if you only hear good
January 20, 2012 12:05 pm at 12:05 pm #845056ayshosheeParticipantthe issue is not everyone needs to know this information for u to tell someone who it applies to its letoeles but to post it on a thing thats for everyone to read then its not letoeles for everyone

but your question was answered there in numerous posts, in numerous ways by different posters, and with examples and at least one real life incident
here is a quote from my first post there:
“it is lashon hara to post it here.
in private discussions with an individual who needs to know the information, it may be permitted. when it is and isnt needs Halachic guidance.”
so the answer to your question if you still need one is YES
there are times “when someone’s looking for serious information that its permitted to give the truth out? ex. camps, seminaries, etc.”
but remember, to post negative information here where it will be read by thousands of Jews who have NO NEED for the information is lashon hara or motzei shem ra, in most cases.

I totally understand your point and sympathize with you.
It is my understanding that with loshon hafa one should not feel like they should just not talk. On the contrary, there are times when you have to say something and cannot stand by. But certain conditions have to be met.
Bottom line, one has to learn the laws of loshon hara. It is very important.
I hope the moderators allow this link in my post. I recommend you save it and read it each day as a new lesson automatically appears.
In a short while, you will feel like you have some grasp on how to handle matters of speech. It is a start, and that is the best place to being.

The sefer chofetz chaim discusses all these halachos, and it is fairly easy reading.

But I see lots of Lashon harah posed here about YU and YCT.
