it is takeh a good question.
however he seems to be the first tourist on discworld. ever.
the first person who ever thought of touring on discworld. therefore he was the first tourist to ever be/step foot on discworld.
its a shver answer, i know. but thats all i can come up with
March 1, 2015 3:49 pm at 3:49 pm #1114606Patur Aval AssurParticipantI thought of that and it would (albeit dochekly) answer for some of the statements. But there is one statement which says:
“Discworld’s first visitor from elsewhere” [emphasis added]
which is pretty explicitly saying that Twoflower is not from Discworld.

March 1, 2015 9:45 pm at 9:45 pm #1114607showjoeParticipantlisten, i hear you rayia, but l’massea i can tell you that discworld is the whole planet.
so sometimes, we just conclude “kashia”
March 1, 2015 11:27 pm at 11:27 pm #1114608Patur Aval AssurParticipantIt also says:
“Twoflower was a tourist, the first of the species to evolve on the Disc”
Which is explicit that Twoflower is in fact from Discwold.
My answer to the contradiction is that the quote which said “from elsewhere” is not actually in the book; it’s in the summary on the back cover. Perhaps the summary is not canonical.

March 2, 2015 2:24 pm at 2:24 pm #1114609Patur Aval AssurParticipantIt is interesting though, that the writer of the summary would make such an elementary mistake.
March 2, 2015 3:50 pm at 3:50 pm #1114610gavra_at_workParticipantI’m not sure why you have a Shaillah.
Pashut he is from the Disc (Counterweight), but he is also the first tourist, as no such thing existed on the Disc before Twoflower.
On the summary? I don’t have to deal with Meforshim. They make mistakes.
March 2, 2015 5:05 pm at 5:05 pm #1114612MRS PLONYParticipantSure the ‘blurb’ writer could make a dumb mistake. It’s well known that the first edition of The Hobbit had some peculiar cover art because the publisher just chose something strange because they were in a hurry to go to print. I think it had a couple of flamingoes under a weird looking tree.
Not nogeiah to DiscWorld, but in the same category of fantasy fiction.
March 2, 2015 5:26 pm at 5:26 pm #1114613Patur Aval AssurParticipantJudging by my blocked post, I think the moderators must have overextended their senses of humor with the switching of posters.
So here is my post minus the “objectionable” part:
Pashut he is from the Disc (Counterweight), but he is also the first tourist, as no such thing existed on the Disc before Twoflower.
So perhaps he should have been described as “the first Discworlder to become a tourist.”
March 3, 2015 9:57 pm at 9:57 pm #1114614Patur Aval AssurParticipantPerhaps the summary writer got confused by:
Inside the ship is Twoflower, the Disc’s first tourist. He had recently spent some months exploring it and is now rapidly leaving it for reasons that are rather complicated but have to do with an attempt to escape from Krull.
Taken on its own, this sentence can easily lead one to believe that Twoflower is not from the Disc.

March 12, 2015 8:49 pm at 8:49 pm #1114622YW Moderator-42ModeratorI just realized that OOM had mentioned me in the opening post of this thread. I never looked at this thread until today as I have never read the books… But condolences to all the fans ^_^
March 13, 2015 1:24 am at 1:24 am #1114623Patur Aval AssurParticipantHow did DEATH, within minutes of creating the username, get a subtitle which was the first of three tweets announcing the death, and then lose it shortly thereafter? My earlier post was the second of the three tweets; I had skipped the first one because it was already in DEATH’s subtitle.
March 13, 2015 1:38 am at 1:38 am #1114624☢️ Rand0m3x 🎲ParticipantA wizard did it?
What are the other two tweets?
March 13, 2015 4:23 am at 4:23 am #1114625Patur Aval AssurParticipantThe three tweets:
[In case you don’t know, Death in Discworld is anthropomorphic and speaks in capitals.]
“AT LAST, SIR TERRY, WE MUST WALK TOGETHER.”
“Terry took Death’s arm and followed him through the doors and on to the black desert under the endless night.”
“The End.”
This is how his daughter announced his death.

He will be missed.

a man with a job well done
March 16, 2015 12:57 am at 12:57 am #1114630Patur Aval AssurParticipantSo I finished the third book. It was so much better than the first two (not that the first two were bad). Though I still have a kashya on it:
In the beginning of the book, Drum Billet is walking in the rain. We are told:
[Y]ou could tell he was a wizard, partly because of the long cloak and carven staff but mainly because the raindrops were stopping several feet from his head and steaming.
Yet towards the end of the book, Cutangle is walking in the rain and he gets soaked until Granny Weatherwax tells him to move between the drops. Now why couldn’t Cutangle do whatever magic it was that Drum Billet did to stay dry?
December 3, 2015 8:15 am at 8:15 am #1114634secretagentyidMemberPAA–perhaps he didn’t know the spell?
