Why do teenagers get so annoyed when they are told that they’re acting like a teenager? I don’t get annoyed when I’m told that I act like an adult!
edit: not a serious thread.
April 14, 2013 11:29 pm at 11:29 pm #946805Rabbi PerfectMemberBecause teenagers think they’re on top of the world and that they know better than everyone else. Thus telling them they’re teenagers is telling them that they’re just young buffoons.
April 15, 2013 1:14 am at 1:14 am #946806ezer15Memberrabbi perfect-when your a teen in this gen you can talk as of now i recommend u keep shut
April 15, 2013 1:15 am at 1:15 am #946807writersoulParticipantBecause being told that you’re a teenager is usually in response to exasperating behavior, which means that it turns into an insult, while being told you’re an adult is considered a compliment.
Maybe the term for what a person de facto is should not be used as an insult.
April 15, 2013 1:44 am at 1:44 am #946808aproudbygParticipantteenagers get frustrated with this because when its said its usually said along the lines of adults saying they where also teens at one point or that teens can get annoying…. sometimes peopel feel like what htey go through others dont know or its hard to describe and when some peole say things like “your acting like a teenager” they feel they are trying to say they know how it feels

April 15, 2013 12:55 pm at 12:55 pm #946811ChortkovParticipantIts generally the condensending tone of the teenage-caller which does it. If a kid, like twelve or something, would say to a teenage “Wow, you’re a teenager”, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind

You really want to annoy someone? Tell someone in their 20s that they are acting like a teenager.
April 15, 2013 5:00 pm at 5:00 pm #946813SaysMeMemberalso, to a 2 yr old- you’re such a baby!
Or to a 5-8 yr old- you’re just a little kid.
To a teen- you’re acting like a teen
to a serious person- you’re so serious!
To a sensitive soul- why are you so sensitive!?
To a 50+ -‘it was an older lady, yeah like your age’
etc etc etc
April 15, 2013 5:08 pm at 5:08 pm #946814haifagirlParticipantThat reminds me of a time I was working with another person on seating arrangements for a banquet. I knew some of the people and she knew some of the people. When she would ask me about someone I would say “about my age,” and she would respond, “oh, old.” At the time I was 40.
April 15, 2013 5:25 pm at 5:25 pm #946815zaidy78ParticipantI tell my teenagers that they are acting like babies. But it’s not really their fault. That’s just the way they were born.
April 15, 2013 7:04 pm at 7:04 pm #946816Rabbi PerfectMemberezer15- I guess we now know what the 15 represents in your SN. Quit acting like a teenager 🙂
April 15, 2013 9:15 pm at 9:15 pm #946817Torah613TorahParticipantThe teenager who inspired this thread was extremely amused by everyone’s responses, and adds that it’s ageist.
April 16, 2013 12:47 pm at 12:47 pm #946818squeakParticipantAgeism only works one way, discriminating against the old, not against the young. Disciminating against the young is just called putting them in their proper place.
April 16, 2013 10:50 pm at 10:50 pm #946819Torah613TorahParticipantI shall let them know.
April 16, 2013 10:54 pm at 10:54 pm #946820oomisParticipantBecause this is typically not exactly said as a compliment. Unless you are telling someone, you are as beautiful and youthful as a teenager (and you are talking to a middle aged woman), it probably will not be perceived as a positive statement.
April 17, 2013 1:31 am at 1:31 am #946821ezer15MemberRabbi perfect-That was an immature mistake, and a lame joke.
April 17, 2013 2:24 am at 2:24 am #946822Phil99MemberWhen you call a teenager a teenager it is never actually in a positive way, yet no one would say to an adult “You’re such an adult” and even if they did it wouldn’t be too hurtful.
April 17, 2013 2:45 am at 2:45 am #946823This name is already takenParticipantare we talking of teenage boys or girls (2 differant parshas altogether)
April 19, 2013 3:25 am at 3:25 am #946824AriellahParticipanti like being called a teenager!
