Why do some rabbis teach shiurs while still wearing tefillin?

On a shiur website, I noticed a rabbi giving a shiur wearing his tefillin and tallis gadol. I figure that he is still in shul and/or could be speaking to a minyan so he is still wearing the tallis.

My question is not why this particular rabbi is still wearing tefillin because we cannot know for sure.

Just wondering the spiritual reasons why any rabbi would be wearing tefillin while teaching. Is it intentional or just happened to be the timing?

Attn: No LH permitted please. Please, now that I’ve been schooled in LH, B”H this thread will only promote positive inquiry and insight. Thank you in advance.

Sorry, I skipped that section of the Shulchan Aruch, since I didn’t think I needed to know those halachos. You’ll have to ask one of the men in the CR this one.

And I’m B”H schooled in Netilas Yadayim, Brochos, Hafrashas Challah, Hilchos Sukka, Melicha, Toen V’nitan (to name a few, in my humility). So this thread will contain only…

LF – I don’t know if you realize but there was an OP here with a question that seems to have disappeared… and that is what I was responding to…

If you were making fun of my comment, I do teach halacha to women, and I happen to be in the middle of Cheilik Alef of the Shulchan Aruch, so in theory I should have done Hilchos Tefillin if not for the fact that I skipped it.

I did do Netilas Yadayim and Brochos, but none of the others you mentioned.

I was kind of assuming that most men know something about hilchos Tefillin, and would be able to answer.

(Now I see the original OP)

And actually she DID ask the men, this site (contrary to popular opinion), is frequented by both sides of the mechitza. One side generally suffices with one tenth .. due to a gemarah somewhere)

And the reason is because we’re really supposed to wear them the whole day. Indeed olden times that would be the rule. Nowadays when we can’t keep to the constant level of kedshah required, we remove them out of reverence, once the minimum requirement is attained.

If one CAN keep to that level, all the better. He is sanctifiying himself more and more with these most holy mitzvhos. They surround a person, infuse his neshamah, his mind and heart with holiness.

It is brought down in halacha to learn a little bit after davening while wearing tefillin.

perhaps the Rabbi you saw just finished shachris & gives a shiur every morning. Or a Rosh Hayeshiva who is a role model & is very good for his talmidim to go directly from davening to giving a shiur without going to take off his tefillin between. to show there is no break between Hashem & torah

Well since I am usually the one who answers LB’s questions… and the one who is usually interested in the Halacha questions (as opposed to all the annoying politics threads)… and the one whom everyone thought was a guy and would think so still if I hadn’t disillusioned them. (ok, so, I guess I anyhow gave up the charade when I let my sensitivity show)

Anyhow, thanks for answering, LF, MK, & MA!

lilmod ulelamaid: Exhale. Everything is good. Hakol tov ve hakol le tova. Thank you for your answers. The ones that don’t post will just have to get through telepathically 😉

Little Froggie: By whole day, you mean day right? Because once a rabbi told me that you cannot put on tefillin for the first time with the bracha after maariv or sunset something.

Thanks Mashiach Agent ~ So that’s what happens after they daven. Do regular minyans where there is no school, and the guys just go to work, have shiurs after too? Sometimes I see shiurs on the schedule. I don’t know if it’s for regular people who daven there already or to bring new people in… and most likely both all of the above etc.

lilmod ulelamaid: Magic magic. I was editing the post when you typed your first post and then it disappeared because I removed it and then added it again… Yes magic indeed.

Most shiurim that take place in shul like daf yomi or a weekly shiur are given BEFORE Shachris or mincha without tefillin on & then upon finishing learning everyone starting to put on tefillin.

most AFTER learning shiurim are a quick 5 minute daily halacha shiur by the rav which when given is still considered part of davening & upon finishing the shiur someone says kaddish d’rabbanon

While in most shuls learning is done prior to morning prayers (Sacharis) this is due to the fact that many have to go to work right away. In yeshivas and Bais Medrash it is common to learn Mussar right after prayers (Sacharis) and that is when and what the Rabbi was doing. Now a days Rabbis don’t wear Talis & Teffillin all day.
